Jack Thompson! (Again........)

http://forums.cheatcc.com/blogs/news_by_lindsay/archive/2005/12/23/89448.aspx

Jack Thompson, an anti-game crusader and Florida lawyer, has upped his ridiculous antics and bought stock in Take-Two Interactive, the company behind the Grand Theft Auto series and The Warriors. Thompson is not hoping that the company will increase his profit, but is rather looking forward to being a part of the shareholder mettings. Already he has requested a "handheld, cordless microphone."

In a letter Thompson has written announcing his purchase of Take-Two stock, he has made fun of Paul Eibeler for his naming as "America’s Worst CEO of 2005" and the hot coffee scandal getting named one of the "Ten Worst P.R. Blunders of 2005."

The real kicker was when Thompson blamed Bill Gates for September 11. He stated:

"What’s next Paul, a game in which players can practice flying commercial jetlines into the World Trade Towers? Oh, I forgot. Microsoft already did that. Thank Time’s "Man of the Year," Bill Gates, whose Halo trained Lee Boyd Malvo to be the Beltway Sniper as well."

Actually he's blaming MS flight simulator for 911. I had crashed into the twin towers tons of times in flight simulator before 911 happened because I used to do one of those short game modes that started at the Statue of Liberty and the first thing I would do is try to fly sideways in between the towers. This guy seems a little nuts though, let's hope he doesn't get any clout in government.

He bought stock in these terrorist funders, so now he is funding terrorist organizations and it's ok?

Jack Thompson has fought off stiff competition from Dubya and Wayne Rooney to be my official Idiot of the Year. After all, Bush only tried to walk out of a locked door and Rooney only gave a referee the middle finger, neither has managed to plumb the utter depths of moronicity that Thompson has, well, made for himself -- someone needs to tell him, "dig upwards!"

I notice he isn't suing Stephen King for the ending to The Running Man (a short story he wrote as Richard Bachman)... surely more significant than anything you could do in any flight sim http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I told Jack to quit huffing gas, but he wouldn't listen. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Holding a full gas can, he said "The fate of the world depends on it, talking squirrel! (sniff)" Then later he said (many, many times, while still holding the gas can) "Huh, huh, I got gas" http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif He kept saying that demons were eating his flesh whenever he didn't speak, so he couldn't stop talking. I rolled my eyes, and walked aways slowly, hoping he wouldn't follow me. To make sure he didn't follow, I told him I'd liquify his brains with my wireless XBox 360 controller. He ran off, and hid in a corner. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You don't get it do you, JT is a fake, he's nothing more than a Take 2 product placement. The whole thing is a set up, the judge, the politicians, Hillary, victims....it's a all in the marketing.

I thought JT was bad, but this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps) guy is worse, he was a lawyer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps#Law_career) too but got disbarred (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps#The_Carolene_Brady_incident.2Fdisbarme nt) , rightfully so I would say.

Hmm...

Several of Phelps' estranged family members, staff members from Bob Jones University, and the minister who ordained him, all claim that Phelps suffers from a mental illness that leaves him unsatisfied with life unless he can be responsible for the suffering of other human beings.

So if we make Fred Phelps officially responsible for torturing Jack Thompson, he won't need to hate "fags" any more, and will be doing a public service to boot -- everyone's happy! \o/

The title is wrong.
He meant that Microsoft's Flight Simulator caused 9/11.

The take off, decent and landing are the hard parts, but once it's in the air anyone can steer it. That's why we still have flight schools, because Microsoft can't teach anyone how to fly a plane. Maybe steer. And even then it doesn't take long to figure out how to crash it into something once it's already in flight.

If a game did teach a person how to fully operate an aircraft, so what. Next time a guy with a car full of dynomite slams into a heavily populated building are we going to blame the DMV?

Simulation give you a good idea and a better understanding of the real thing, but it's not like the real thing. Believing it is would be like believing playing Raven Shield will make you good with a real firearm.

That's the answer.. blame everything and everyone else. Maybe if we didn't piss them off they wouldn't want to attack us. Because you know people are robots. We can control everything they do.

If they didn't have access to a flight sim they would have still done it. The flight sim only served briefing. A training tool to make it easier. The absence of the game wouldn't have prevented anything.

Hey, I'm not all for graphics. I still play my Sega Genesis. I just can't stand early 3D for the most part. It was gross. In fact, I always thought that the 64 bit era of consoles would've looked better if more games were side view. They could've made things look amazing with digitized sprites, and layers of lighting, but instead all we got was crappy early 3D. Sure, at the time it looked amazing, but now the 2D games of the same time look better. Hell, I still like a lot of Genesis and SNES games better than new ones. I like Madden 94 on Genesis way better than any of the new ones. The new ones are stiff in comparison. I'm also a huge fan of late 80's/early 90's arcade games. Games were simpler, and a lot more fun. So to say I'm all about graphics is bull. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I blame Jack(ass) Thompson for being a poster child to every shady, corrupt, opportunist, case-chasing, scaming, lawyer that is practicing law.

I blame him for the frivilous lawsuit crap that makes headlines, especially ones that make it up to the Supreme Court about a old guy who got his rocks off to a over-sized booby stripper that was digging for more gold than a miner in the 1840s or Ivan picking his nose, and is trying to get half his fortune inheritance...

Are you saying, if we ignored him he'd go away? Hmm... it's a nice thought, but consider this: if he keeps going just a bit longer, he might make the legal profession look so bad that the USA will stop being so litigation-happy (burglars suing homeowners etc.) and do what Shakespeare once suggested: kill all the lawyers http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Exactly. And if he's the face of the anti-gaming lobby (as opposed to some righteous soccer-mom / future female presidential candidate type), then for once the image of the nerdy, sun-deprived, brooding gamer as the violent antagonist will be superceded by the greedy legal schmuck who'll say anything to make a quick buck at the expense of a hard at work American industry that's trying to survive on the cutting edge.
