View Full Version : Morningwood, AZ questions.....

As most of you probably know, every release of DNF media has included screenshots/footage of a western ghost town in Arizona called "Morningwood."

If anyone in the know would be so kind to answer these questions that have been eating away at me for years, I'd be much obliged.

1. Does the town even exist?? I did extensive research and google searching and the only info on morningwood was in form of old DNF articles and news.

However, what leads me to believe there might indeed be a Morningwood, is simply the fact that 3DR has always insisted on realism and every single other mentioned area in the game is a real-life location. If the answer to this question is yes, does anyone know exactly where this place is or where I can find more info/photgraphs, etc....

2. If there indeed is no such exact place as Morningwood, I'd love to know what places/towns that the in-game area was(is?) based on and exactly how 3DR put together a fake mining town for their game(without violating the secrecy policy, obiviously).

3. This question is really pushing the boundaries of Area 51, but it is also the question that I am most dying to know the answer to: Is the ghost town still in the game? I'd really like to know if it has survived throughout all these years and if it still remains in the game, OR if it will be included in the final release.

I always thought that the ghost town would be one of the more interesting places in DNF and it would be a shame to me if it was left behind and gone. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I can't think of one modern FPS game that has a good old western level and I think that one of the most memorable moments in DNF could very well the mine cart ride/chase. It could be today's equivalent of the falling ship in Jedi Knight-you know, a historical gaming moment that makes everyone go "wow" and is talked about for years to come. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know that obviously 3DR has made the best decisions for DNF, but from where I'm standing, the ghost town seems to have a lot of potential in making DNF a classic.

Being a huge fan of ghost towns and westerns myself, I have been meaning to post this for ages, but never got around to doing it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Better than nightwood, you can't go to sleep with one of those.

It may not be a real place, but it's a real event!

Yeah, I believe it was first seen in this screenshot. It looked pretty damn good, especially for back then(early 1998). Now George will probably hunt me down and kill me for posting it....he hates being reminded of the game's previous state(s).

The saloon is called Lonehorse Saloon, fyi.

Uhh...is there something I'm missing here??

What does the word Morningwood mean; what is it's significance?

Is is a double entendre of some sort?

Someone please fill me in on what I'm missing... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

1) Morning 2) wood:

1. Morning- An early time of day. No ambiguity here, not like the next...

2. wood- A penile erection. Also used as 'woody' as in "I got a woody from seeing that stripper perform".

Morning wood: An erection you find you have when you wake up in the morning.

Yeah, I was thinking that it meant that exact thing (no really, I seriously was) but I didn't want to sound stupid or perverted if I was wrong; and I guess I thought there might have been more to it than that.

Thanks for clarifying that for me tho..... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I just hope this thread's topic doesn't turn into that of 8th grade humor-that wasn't my orignial intention, in case you haven't figured that out. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Me and my big mouth....well I guess it was curiousity that killed the cat http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (but hopefully not this thread).
