Hey Joe, you wouldn't happen to know what language Keen was made in would you? Just curious.

It was made with the Ted engine, which was also later modified for use with several other games, including Wolf3D and RotT.

Just noticed that my reply didn't answer your question at all. Sorry. (Good trivia knowledge, though.)

I know I'm not Joe, but I think it was made using a C++ and Assembly mix.

Ted is the name of the editor - nothing more.
No clue what it was programmed in.

Probably with the odd bit (or large chunks) of assembly thrown in.
Mind you, that would only work on a VGA card. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

I looked inside some of the files on Keen. Yes it was made with Ted 5. I read it myself. I tried to use TED5 on Keen but didn't work the way I was expecting. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/frown.gif

Hmm, speaking of what language a game was made in, what was Raptor made in? I'm making a game (one of the five others I'm making) that I intend to be like Raptor, but it goes WAAAY too slow (although I have sped it up to 30 fps on my 486, the ship movement doesn't work well). Ahh, I'm changing the subject, though, aren't I?

Most of all games today (especially ones done by professional companies) are written in C, C++, and/or Assembly. There can be a mix of them together.
You will find some amateur side scrollers and such written in Pascal though.

As i recall, Commander Keen is written in straight C... Some of the graphics code is done in Assembly....
Just little tweaks, to speed up the VGA, 4 DWORD writes in one clock cycle....

First, it wasn't me.
Second, don't look for a whole lot of old stuff to be released (if any at all). Most people just don't care to spend the time to look for this stuff.
