View Full Version : Why do they do stupid things with DVD Cases?

I really dislike how some companies out there like messing with a good thing so that they can "stand out" from other cases. Simpsons and Army of Darkness (with the stupid squishy book shape..) are good examples of things that just look strange on your shelf. I also really dislike when dvd's come with stupid things like trailer park boy's has a little stuffed character and some seinfeld dvd has a puffy shirt.. why not just release these things in standard cases? Sorry i just had to do a mini rant. I just hate them so much.

I dislike the ones with the two flaps you have to open on the side just to open the DVD case.

I also hate the ones like The Matrix came out in. The half cardboard/half DVD case thing. Whatever it is, it just sucks.

I prefer standard cases and very square, easily shelved designs. So I understand what you're saying.

Although, in the future, there will be some DVD collections that I'll display. Like Evil Dead movies, my Star Trek stuff, Stargate stuff (though these come in pretty nice, tasteful packages). Sometimes I don't mind the packaging--it's the content that counts. Plus, I really like to gloat about awesome DVDs I have. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

. . . Still, I prefer it fit on a shelf.

DUDE. THE FLAPS. I HATE THE FLAPS. I almost broke the first DVD case I bought with those because I couldn't figure out why the hell it wouldn't open.

I broke the flaps off after I got the Black Dog DVD opened.
Now, I can open it like a regular DVD case, no flaps to open first. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif

I got Simpsons Season 6 in that "special package", and I don't really mind. That's mainly because I don't have some fancy shelf to show it off in. When I don't watch my DVD:s I just hide them http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I have other things to show than what DVD:s I have bought.

ALSO You can buy Simpsons DVD:s as standard digipack, and atleast in play.com they cost less too.

Like Baskinator I almost broke my Warriors DVD Case twice because the first time i didn't realise they were there and the second time i forgot. Personally I don't mind them since the form factor fits into a dvd stand but kind weird to go to the trouble of adding them to a case.

I'll admit I love stuff like the Evil Dead "Book of the Dead" DVD case, but for that one I usually just have it sit seperate from the other DVDs so that others can be amazed at my Evil Dead obsession. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But stuff like the "flaps" mentioned earlier drive me friggin' insane. I also usually hate tin cases, and get annoyed by those ones that snap open on the side and then have this thin "front cover" you have to pull open.

I have Eraserhead on DVD and it comes in a 10x10x2 box. Way too big for its one disc. It's a behemoth!

Also those flaps do suck.

I personally don't really care. I've never been given a hassle by a differently shaped case, myself, and I've seen several of the designs mentioned above and more.

Yeah, I hate those weird 3d pieces of crap.

Honestly, I would prefer them to be done in metal and only then would a slight 3d etching would be fine.

Soon DVDs will be d/led into our brains. But still, I'd like a nice case to at least look at. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It bothered me at first but now I don't care.....as long as they fit I don't care what they do. Since I already bought Season 6 of the Simpsons in Homer's head, I might as well get Season 7 with marge.

And the tabs.....arg...
