View Full Version : I found an error in Raptor

Hey, anyone ever notice that the shadow in Raptor doesn't work like a shadow in real life? The only way it would actually be right is if it were to be assumed that the light source were moving (which, I don't think is supposed to be happening). I noticed this when I was working with the shadow in my game... and to think such an error would be kept in the full version of the game! http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Eh, you're a little late for beta testing, don't you think?

Yeah, we knew about that. It was too late in the development to fix it. If you'll also notice, the stereo is backwards.

Actually, now that I'm thinking of it, is it really that hard to change a few algorithms and recompile the source code? Or was it in the AI for every enemy ship?

There comes a time in every project's development cycle when a problem is deemed to small to bother to fix. These things were fixed right after we finished, but before we released it. It was deemed not important enough to open up the code again and fix.

No, that has squat to do about it. I meant exactly what I said. To my knowledge, the only game whose source code is totally GONE is Rise of the Triad. I bet if the original programmers looked around hard enough, they might find it.

Allen Blum once told me the Duke Nukem II stuff is on a disk that's only readable by an Amiga.

Please, I know what I'm talking about. Don't put words in my mouth. You don't work here, you don't know what it's like.

Probably on a floppy disk somewhere. I did recently get Frank Maddin to find some old Crystal Caves betas for the archives - so I know he has the old material.

Game source code is susceptible to the same kind of attack from bad hard drive clusters that any other kind of data is, you know. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

I don't work there? That's what YOU think! (Note: What you think is correct.)

Seriously, I know I couldn't recompile CerealMan! if my life depended on it. I'm much less organized that I could be.

ummmm, speaking of source code, it'd be REAL nice of you to release the source for biomenace and the like, if you haven't already. i mean they're not exacly UnReal are they <though i would argue they BM is more fun>the source for hexen, heretic, doom, wolf have all been released, so why not jump on the proverbial bandwagon?
