I would imagine it was created for the game.

It was a custom track by Lee Jackson.

Ayye... He rocked...
Kinda sad he's not working on the current game... Hopefully they're re-using his work from the previous versions... I hope they have got a good replacement for him... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

[EDIT:] thanatar@ You may want to visit Duke4.net, since we provide german news posts, and have a german forum section as well... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Are there any reasons known why he's not working on the current game?

Yeah, it might be on a jukebox somewhere, that fit in. But I think george mentioned something about there not being any music at all during the games.

He meant that there won't be background music created by thin air, that doesn't exclude music where it actually makes sense (like in a bar).

hey you know what would kickass? If you could have a jukebox with your own choice of music on it (mp3s, or just a selection of music created for the game)

BUT when you choose a track, the strippers dance in rhythm to it!

No, but the song "burn in hell" from dimmu borgir could be cool, or rammstein, or metallica, or some latin music. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As much as I like that cover (that's right, Dimmu Borgir didn't compose it) it would make a terrible addition to the Duke Nukem Forever OST http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, they could most likely only do it scripted with pre-selected songs by 3DR included in the Jukebox, not with mp3s from your hard drive http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Uh, so, OK, there won't be music during gameplay.

But, if some duke3d levels are remade, then could there be somebackground music too? It doesn't have to play all the time, maybe it could fade in or out. You could get into some really crazy ideas, like adjusting the music somehow according to how hurt you are, or how much time there is left on the clock during a V.S. game, or how close the score is in a V.S. game.

Or something.

For MP there is a jukebox mode available iirc where you can load up your own songs, maybe 3DR supplies some themselfs as well. But in SP it's only locational music (if it fits).

no way, all they gotta do is link the speed of the dancing anims to the speed of the beat of the song, which is easy peasy to figure out with software.

Which doesn't mean it will look right for that song though. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif It's a lot more work then it sounds because the beat is not everything in the song, you can have songs with the same beat but one will sound romantic while the other sounds more hardcore. But that is due to the rest of the sounds and not the beat. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yeah I know. It doesn't help much tho. I remember when I was still on a high from dn3d mapping, waiting for DNF so I could make maps for a newer engine.

I eventually cut my losses and decided to map for the new game on the block. That was Unreal.

Despite the fact there will be no music in gameplay, I'm sure that the game will support it if you have your own particular OGG's to play, right?

Absolutely it will.

Even if DNF doesnt support playing user music directly (and theres no doubt in my mind that it will), you can always just run winamp in the background anyway.

I'm doing that very often too...
Although, because my curent PC is so limited, it makes some games run slower...

But i usually disable the music from Duke3D to listen to my Winamp playlist.. (i love the midi there, but i'd like my own music too at times) http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yea I used winamp in the backgound while playing counterstrike all the time. But that was really only because the game was so repetitive and my huge playlist really made it a lot more fun to play.

But for a game like DNF, Im sure I wont even want winamp playing. And if there is ingame music, I will probably turn it off for my second time playing through the game.

You played Counter Strike with Winamp..?
I thought there was a bigger risk for lag in MP games when running stuff in the background... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

Yes, winamp was running in the background.

I dont know if it makes a difference performance-wise, but I was using a 'hack' that allowed me to control winamp (play, pause, volume, skip songs, etc) from within the game. So its not like I needed to minimize CS in order to skip a crappy song or anything.

It was really a neat program actually. Basically, you start winamp, start the 'hack', and then start counterstrike. Once in the game, you just press the INSERT key, and it brings up a slick little winamp HUD without disrupting the gameplay at all.

Since winamp wasnt using the internet at all, it didnt contribute to lag whatsoever.

If anything, it might have slowed my computer down a little bit, resulting in a drop in framerate, but:
1) that didnt happen because my computer is pretty fast
2) thats not "lag", at least, not how I define it.

How I miss playing CSS. I actually got banned for... well.. hacking http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No, youre right. The hack came with a wall-hack too and I was too temped to try it out. I only used it one day for a few hours, then found it boring and turned it off permanently. But apparently that was enough, cause I got banned a few months later (they dont ban you as soon as they catch you; they wait a random amount of time, so that the hack-makers dont know wether their hacks are catch-proof or not).
Anyway I cant wait to get back into CSS. The only reason I hacked was because everyone else was doing it and it was frustrating. I assume there are way way less hackers out there now.
And to be fair, Im also just plain really good at the game, and I always always get accused of hacking even when I'm not. Stoopid noobs!
