I just got BM fully downloaded for DR. I get it installed and start the game. When I start to shoot the first enemy I see the game freezes. Or if I'm in Windows it'll close the game out bringing a windows down at the bottom right corner saying

"THIS PROGRAM HAS PERFORMED AN ILLEGAL OPERATION. PLEASE CLOSE ALL OTHER PROGRAMS AND RESTART YOUR COMPUTER."

It also had a bunch of other stuff that really doesn't help me plus I don't remember what it said. BTW: Needless to say I have Win95. My grandparents have Win98. I'm going to download the shareware to see if it's my computer or if it's the full version.

It's the operating system, not the game. It wasn't designed to run in Windows. GO to MS-DOS mode and play the game.

Well let me tell you a little story about my process of trying to get this to work.

In Windows95 I tried running it under windows and in DOS. Both failed to make me happy. So I installed Windows98 and did the same thing as I did in Win95 and still fails to make me happy. However...

My grandparents computer has Windows98 and I play Bio Menace over there and it works perfectly under Windows and DOS. Anybody want to give this a whirl?

Two words : Lousy soundcard.

Two solutions :

1. Get a better soundcard
2. Update your drivers

And more thing, you CAN run BioMenace from Windows 95.

That's the stacks issue - it has squat to do with your sound card. We have never been able to get it running under Win95/98 up here at the offices. Period.

If you can, consider yourself lucky. We've never been able to figure out a way that will make it work on all machines.

Besides, Bio Menace only has Adlib sound anyway. A lot of newer cards probably don't even emulate that anymore. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Well when I got home from school today I started to read up on this problem.

quote:
If the game locks up for no apparent reason (especially if you are shooting or you hit one of the purple slugs) there is something you can do. In the CONFIG.SYS file add

STACKS=9,256

So I did just that. When I rebooted and started the game. You'll never guess what happened. Yes it froze. I don't get it. My grnadparents computer has drivers older than mine and it still works. Is the game more compatible with older drivers or what? Is there any solution to this problem that will really work? Oh why did Apogee (or whoever made the game) use this new system to make the game? It caused more problems for the buyers than it did good.
