Does anyone have The Games Factory? If so, would anyone like to help me make a Commander Keen TGF Game?

Er, what? Is it like Klik'n'Play? Never heard of it.

Note: Joe will probably close this, because, technically, Keen fan-made games are illegal.

No, there only illegal if we SELL them. Keen fan made games are (to my knowledge) perfectly legal. Yes The Games Factory is basically Klik 'n' Play with improvements.

Actually, it is the use of copyrighted material, so it owuld be illegal. But, as Joe once said, "It's another matter entirely if the company will do something about it." You know id... greedy sell-outs... but hey, it's worth a shot.

Wallace is correct. I've said this several times already. Technically, all the fan made games are illegal, since they use copyrighted material.

Whether or not the copyright holder will do anything about it is another story. Most won't. A good way to get the copyright holder to come down on you is to ask for money. A few will still come down on you, but generally they don't if you don't ask for money.

If you want to see it, download this:

It's not actually Keen 7, that's a working Title.

YES! I HAVE TGF, and if you could provide
me with graphics, I could program a really
cool game! Or we could program together.

Oh, forget I said that. I just
saw they were illegal. Sorry

Bah, id Software really doesn't care about Keen much anymore, like said above, I highy doubt id will, then again they came down on TCs that featured their grafics on a competitors' engine. Like Wolf3D for Unreal and so on. If you say "Hey, like, this stuff is copyrighted (year here) id Software so don't give me all the credit."

But Joe, id Software owns the copyrights to Dopefish right? Well, on Dopefish.com you post links to and archived on your site space 'illegal' games anf programs of the Dopefish, does 3D Realms/Apogee then support such things since Dopefish.com is and 'Offical' site? And/Or did id higher you to do it and stamp "O.K." on the games/programs you post?

The Dopefish site is no big deal, because I don't ask for money. id knows about it, thinks it's funny.

It's the same thing as I said before. By the letter of the law, it's illegal, but id doesn't care (in this case).

If you're trying to get me to "authorize" something, don't. I can't do that - if you really want permission for something, go ask the copyright holder.

Since this thread is about id Software and copyright issues, legal crappola and all that other good stuff, I advise you to check out this news posting:

I got this off the generations page:

quote:
id does not allow any third-party map conversions from one of its games to another, for any reason.

Doesn't this make wad2map (on duke3d cd) illegal? Or does that statement that a quake game can't be put into quake 2, but can be put into Duke3d?

Quake stuff to Quake 2 was done edzactly. Same models and everything, maps and such. But Wolfenstein and DOOM on the other hand came from skratch.

Also Apogee still holds rights as a publisher for Wolfenstein 3D. I think.
