I was looking around he .ROT files (ROTT data files), and I came to CONFIG.ROT. At the bottom there's a line something like:

What's this mean?
I noticed that the first four letters 7d7e4a2d, spell DEAD.

Joe? Any Idea?

I can hear it, now . . .

"Good evening, this is the news at 6. Recently, a young man by the name of Simon Broadhead revealed a secret passcode inserted into a popular computer game. This code was inserted by the evil genius Tom Hall, and he intends to use it to bend all those who do not worship the Church of the Dopey Fish to his will. That is all the information we have at this time, we will keep you up to date as we receive further developments . . ."

Its probably just the encryption for the content password that allows you to turn off blood and stuff. DEAD probably means nothing, just a coincidence. Well I'm guessing here, could be many things http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif.

Yep, that's just the content password section. 7d7e4a2d3b6a031955465454231c=No Password. Don't believe me? Try changing one of the digits and then go try to change the gore levels. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif (Just write down the original code first)

Some guy said Quake had the full version of RotT and other stuff hidden on it. The password to get in was incrypted thing. Any chance any one will tell me it? Or is this rumor which I doubt.

You doubt it's a rumor? *Laughs to self* Okay, whatever, pal. It's a rumor--id software and Apogee aren't in cahoots concerning Quake. Why would id stick that in there? I mean, I know Tom Hall did RotT and Quake (he DID do Q1, didn't he?) but why would they bother?

Get yourself a quake CD and look around on it somewhere you will find an incrypted file. You tell me what it is. Then I will be staisfied. I would also like for you to explain to me how at a LAN party some guy started screwin around on the quake CD and magically got Rott. Course I wasn't exactly lookin at him the whole time.If he did trick me god help him.

He probably had a copy on the harddrive http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

I have a copy of Quake and I don't see no encrypted file on the thing other than the .pak files, but those can be opened with a Pak editor. Also, I've never heard of ROTT even being on the Quake cd, hidden or not.

Hum,.

On the Quake shareware CD, there ARE encrypted files. No RotT though. There's Heretic, Doom, Doom 2, HeXen, HeXen add-on, Wolf3d, Final Doom, and I'm pretty sure there might be master levls. You can either call a number and pay $50.00 to unlock it, or use QCrack.

So there are encrypted games just no Rott. Don't like that guy anymore not that I've seen him since then but I don't like him.
