Rise of the Traid was my first 3d game. After that I never looked back, I played doom a few times. Sucked.

Why doom sucked:

+4 player network

+Ugly player colors (oh boy red, black, green, and....uggggg olive)

+Die from anything large than a pistol in a matter of second, all you hear is pow! reload pow! and your dead. Might as well not even get higher than that.

+A shotgun that could shoot bfg balls (I'm talking about player models)

+No lighting effects, dark, medium, light

Why ROTT kicks dooms ass:

+11 player network! with I think about 8-10 different ways to play (CTF, Tag, Hunter, etc.)

+Customable options (ammo, gravity, hit points)

+Cool weapons, I haven't seen a game yet with double pistols.

+A whole rainbow full of player colors

+5 different types of players you can pick
(all with there different atributes)

+Eye widing lighting effects, from lighting, to voobing, to dark to light.

+Players looked like moved real (is it me or does it look like when the doom marines moving he has layers of fat on him? like a green blob with a helmet on?)

+Cool power-ups (wanna be a dog?)

+Each player has there own pain and death sounds

+Cool enemies that acculy do something in order to live

Just add your things here why ROTT kicked dooms ass.

You're talking about one.

BTW, Blood 2 had double pistols, and Tomb Raider had double pistols.

Tomb Raider doesn't count. We don't need no damn non-FPS games stinkin' up the place.

I bought it mainly because it said somewhere that it was the most violent game of all time, and also because the digitised things in the game such as the monks looked so real. Then after I got it I discovered all of those other cool things.

Yeah, it was a good game to buy Luke. One of the few I actually bought.

REASONS WHY DOOM KICKED ROTT'S ASS:

Had a darker, more well defined atmosphere.
(But ROTT had more of a storyline)

There were all kinds of map/art/sound/music editors.

Had a more advanced engine (like angled walls and such).

Ran on a 486 w/ 4 Meg of RAM without complaint.

REASONS WHY ROTT KICKED DOOM'S ASS:

Cool lighting effects (for it's time).

Four very different player characters.

Cool, fun powerups such as DOG mode and SHROOM mode. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Fun little secrets hidden EVERYWHERE throughout the game. Such as the holiday thing and a certain command line option...

Digitized actors. And the added bonus of them being Apogee employees added kind of a sick enjoyment to shooting them. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Two words: Ludicrous gibs!

As stated before many more multiplayer options than DooM.

And finally, a final boss confrontation unlike any before or since. Cyberdemon, eat your heart out! Oh, you don't have one...oops.

FINAL SCORE:

DooM: 4
ROTT: 8

Well I never played blood 2 so it doesn't really count (on my part). I define Tomb Raider as a...game for hyper hormonic teenage guys who rather drool over a pair of digital breats than live a life and get a girl friend (then you can drool http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif )

Doom sucks, the engine was ok I guess (with different sized walls) but Rott did so much that doom couldn't even think about doing. Who knows, if 3drealms released the source code (which they won't because they "can't find it") there would be a GLRott or Rott Legacy or Rott TCP/IP.

oh and rott ran awsome on my 486 SX (stands for Sux) with 4 or 8 megs of ram. It also ran on my friends 386 ok.

Actually, Doom had flickering lights (both at intervals and randomly), smoothly pulsating light (i.e., voobing in ROTT), lit areas that would suddenly blackout, and vice versa.

Hmm, someone hasn't played Shogo: MAD yet.

What if I liked both games, and thought both were equally good? Oh yeah, I forgot, if you like one game, it means you automatically have to hate all others.

What sucked ass about ROTT was the square walls. They could've changed that.

They were using a modified version of the Wolfenstein 3-D engine... yeah sure they could have got rid of the square walls...

Yes I know that, and yes they could've gotten rid of square walls.

Jeez, here we go again with the 90 degree wall arguement again. Times haven't changed. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif
