So with the game being almost done I suppose the developers could tell us how well its running on different computer setups. I remember the Remedy guys telling us that Max Payne 2 ran well on a 9500 Pro with max settings. Can we get any input?

The requirements have to be much steeper than that of Doom 3's, considering the rendering system has been rewritten or reworked from scratch. The portal technology probably makes things more intense. Are the load times comparable to Quake 4's? Any plans for dual core support? What sort of hardware was the game developed on in recent times?

I reckon it'd be less intensive then F.E.A.R so if you can run that well then you could run Prey very well.

Yatta,

The game is going to run fine on anything that can run Doom 3. If you are in the neighborhood of 2.8Ghz and a 9800 Pro, you are in great shape.

Sounds good. I'm still with my 2.4 ghz P4 and 6800gt, but plan to upgrade for Oblivion http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's not because the rendering system is slightly different, that the game will be much steeper, performance-wise.
The other features they included could be as ardware intensive as Doom 3's normal features http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

2.8 ghz? Doom 3 didn't need that for high quality.
I have 2.6 (intel p4), it will be OK I guess, together with my 6600GT 128mb and 1024 mb ram.
I do have one problem with Doom 3 and Quake 4 though and it's that there is a slight pause (freeze) when entering a new area, when new stuff has to load in the memory.
Caching doesn't help http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I hope that doesn't happen in Prey when a portal opens (so data from the room behind the portal has to load).
I even tried using medium quality textures but it didn't help.

Good news. I expected the requirements to be higher. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Me too actually...
I'm surprised it's so "low" compared to Doom 3, when thinking about all the changes and added content...

Perhaps they tweaked the engine, to make it run smoother..?! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/redface.gif

Adding content doesn't make a game demanding.
I'm surprised to see that so much people are surprised that the game isn't more demanding than doom 3 http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Adding engine features doesn't make a game demanding, because it depends WHICH features.
For example, one of the new features is some kind of grenade explosion effect.
Doesn't sound like a demanding feature.
However, if the new features were HDR, realtime radiosity, and a color depth of 64 bits and the game still wasn't more demanding than Doom 3, THEN you can be surprised http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your CPU is holding back your VGA, try to get a 3.0 GHZ CPU or up if of course your MoBo support it! ( you will have a significant increase in framerates)

Well, I believe that Prey may work on my notebook (see the configuration I went with here: http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/sh...part=3&vc=1 (http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=1010438&page=0&fpart=3&vc=1)

It seems to me that a Centrino/Pentium-M 1.86 GHz is comparable to a P4 3.2 - 3.4 GHz, if I'm not mistaken. Also, the Mobility ATI X300 128 MB should be okay for Prey, even tho in another year or two I may find some better mobility graphics cards. Right now, how Dell built it should work quite well with most of the upcoming games (except for DNF, obviously). As for my desktop, I did do some decent upgrades to it, but at least this notebook could easily outperform it.

Then again, we'll see what happens. Lucky I have an external 160 GB HD if the installation gets to be too much (this is only an 80 GB internal HD). It may be a little slower loading due to that fact, but at least it is supported.

It will - I've got pretty much the same NB except with a X700 and I could run Doom 3 and Quake 4 in high detail at 1280x800 - I want Prey NOW http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep, basically I'm looking at my performance in both Doom 3 and Quake 4 as good indicators.

I'm not worried about PREY. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gif good to know. Wasn't worried though, my PIV 3.4 Ghz and GF6800 Ultra OC can handle it. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the info GB. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good to know my computer isn't obsolete just yet. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I can run Doom 3 and Quake 4 fine now, on high quality, so..that's good. I wasn't expecting Prey to have very hefty requirements anyway.

High quality? You probably also have the pause when you enter doors, then.
High quality is for 256 mb cards I heard.
But on medium there is still no improvement http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
