About 3$ more or less, I got my copy for about the same 2 or 3 GBP I can't remember now. It's a good idea but to me it felt rushed and not realy a full game, but other realy like it. I have been thinking about giving it another go though.

You probably won't, either. Your only bet is to order online.

If any of you live in Canada, Future Shop sells it for about $5. It's a steal of a deal. Personally, I'm waiting for DNF.

Why don't you sell the product directly?

Now that I will agree with you on. It "died" too quickly. I thought it was a fabulous title, but it appears that the general gaming public has moved on from this kind of title. I think DNMP was our last attempt at that kind of title, I doubt we'll see another like it.

Why didn't we sell it direct? Dunno - you'd have to talk to management about that. Wasn't my call. I wanted to sell it personally.

John

Then why don't you go and buy all of the $3.50 DNMPs you can find and sell them yourself? It wouldn't be illegal would it, seeing as how your company owns the Duke Nukem franchise? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Maybe people thought it would be like Duke Nukem 3D. My Dad loved Duke Nukem 3D, played a little tiny bit of DNMP and stopped, because it was not like Duke3D at all. I then showed him the Duke Nukem Forever preview to give him something to look forward to.

I however, played DNMP all the way through and enjoyed it very much, and thought it was great game in it's own right. Luckily I bought the game just as it was on it's way out.

That's a shame, because I thought it was great. Too bad Duke console games aren't that common now (or cell phones aren't more powerful) because I'd pick up a PSP if it had a new adventure like MP.

I sent a PM to George about it and this is what his reply was:

Not really sure. We just decided not to, and go only through the publisher. Probably because it was a pretty small time game.

Diablo 2 has been on the shelves forever.

But I just found the greatest $10 deals ever.

I went to the local walmart, and they have Deus Ex (1), Morrowind, Half Life 1, and more in the 10 dollar sections.

I am going shopping tomorrow.

I guess you mean about it being a side-scroller? Yeah, most PC gamers seem to not like (sometimes appreciate) old-school gameplay. There are FPS fans who today don't think Wolf 3D, Doom, or Duke were revolutionary for the genre. I've also seen reviews on some sites of some of these games that blasted the games just because their graphics aren't good- even though the reviews were made after 2000.

Viper Knight

By today's standards. Yeah, it would have been cool to have Far Cry-level graphics in 1992, but what hardware would you have played them with?

Yes, but only from us. It's not a retail title anymore.

Us selling it doesn't count, as I'm talking about games being on store shelves.

I don't understand that either, I hear so many gamer's complain about wanting old school games and platformers...and when a game finally comes along and has it all, they ignore it. Seriosuly...some people just shoot themselves in the foot at times. I feel the same thing happened with many adventure game franchises....all shot down because people didn't buy them.

People may complain about games being all graphics today but you know what? Gamer's are the ones who caused it....after all companies look to the sales of a game to determine if that formula works.

Travis

DNMP was very different, but it was very fun.

It was Duke Nukem II 3D rather than Duke Nukem 3D II.

And people wanted and still want a Duke Nukem 3D II, which...they haven't gotten...yet.

I don't think that's quite the case. The people who expressed their interest for new 'old school' games probably did buy the games and enjoy them. It's just that the majority of other people who are not fans wern't attracted to the products and therefore did not buy them.

How many gamers out of the entire gaming world are dying for a Commander Keen sequel or a Crystal Caves sequel? The answer is probably less than one percent and that's where the problem lies. The market for remakes or sequels of old games, particularly platform games, just isn't there. And that is the painful truth.

However, I for one believe that sometimes titles based on old games can be commerically viable. That is, if something new is added to the mix, that it is made to suit both yesterday's and today's generation, and more importantly if the developers are prepared to take out their wallets and take a RISK. Unfortuantely, this risk factor can be too great and often brillant titles are dropped. And I say Lucasarts (once a great and original game development company IMO) have been scared and overcome by this risk. For example, they were half-way developing a Sam & Max sequel, and then dropped it. And for that, I call Lucasarts's management sissys. All they do these days is stick to good ol' Star Wars and continuously suck the IP dry.

We need more courage in the gaming industry, and when large and successful companies lack that courage, that's when they start losing touch with their fan base and have embarked on the road of becoming straight faced business men.

There are no publicly available screens if it even got that far in development, it was all very hush hush and then just cancelled. I didn't even know the name or basic story in it until years after it was canned, just knew a duke game for the ps2 was in development after the silly press release with just that info. Maybe someone else has any more info.

Yes, when I bought it here new (in 2002) the availability was good, but the price was equivalent of about $42 - which is a budget price by Swedish standards.

New games usually sell for about $60-65.
