View Full Version : Is there a Shadow Warrior Walmart edition?

I never thought I'd post anything about Walmart (yea prices!; boo censorship!)...
I got my SW at Walmart, and it occured to me that it should, given Walmart's record, be censored. The suicide chick is still in the art files, nipples and all, and Wang still swears. If there is no edited version, how on earth did this get by Walmart's family values police, and if it is edited, what got cut?

The suicide chick is what I call the anime girl who impales herself on a sword. It's the only case of a totally topless character that I know of in a 3DR game. Too bad she's dead/dying. If I'm going to see nudity, cartoon or otherwise, I prefer the chick healthy.
Oh, thanks for the speedy reply by the way.
P.S. What's with the review topic link? Is that just for netscape, because I was in here before with ie 3.02 and it came up in a box.

Hey Usurper, how do you get to see all the art files?
Guest

Load 'em up in EditArt or look at them in Build. There's also this program called Artview, I think, which will display each tile in an art file separately. I think you can get it at Dukeworld.com.
I guess they figured children that are too young to figure out how to disable a perental lock wouldn't figure out how to see those tiles. Anyways, if your children use Build for Shadow Warrior, just edit the tile (or I think you can delete it). Maybe Walmart just checks the actual game, not the editing tools.

Well, no, because I got my Shadow Warrior at Wal-Mart also, and its not censored at all...I think Wal-Mart stopped editing their games, because they are selling Aliens vs. Predator, Unreal, Duke 3D, Resident Evil 2, and many more violent games, and none of them had the little sticker on the box saying that the game was censored...

I bought my SW at Walmart a while ago and it was sensored. The game still had all the sounds and anime girls in the data files, but it didn't display them. I had to download a patch to fix it.
The suicide girl isn't in the game at all... I think. I extracted all of the levels and ran a sprite search for her number and I couldn't find here. I know she's in the data file, but I couldn't find her in any of the levels.

Exactly how do I see art files in Edit-art? Whenever I load it and type in G then type in a number and press enter, no art files show up!

Just forget Walmart and buy your games somewhere else http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif
That's what I always have done since they said Walmart locked the censorship on Duke3d.

If you don't wanna edit them just look at them in build. But anyways to look at them in edit art go into your sw folder in dos (make sure you have kextract in it) and type kextract sw.grp *.art
then when you try and look at them in edit art they will come up

Ok, that didnt work. How do I look at art files in Build?

1st make a room. (use space to plot points) press keypad enter to go into 3d mode point toward a wall, floor or ceiling and press v. All the build files must be in the same folder as sw.exe and grp to work i believe or 3d mode won't work

Damn it, wont anyone tell me how to use Editart? I just want to look at the art files. I dont want to edit them.

To run editart for SW:
After you install SW, there's a folder in your SW dir called 'build'. On the command line type cd\sw\build to go to the build folder. Then type kextract C:\sw\sw.grp *.art to extract the art tiles into the build folder. Then type editart to run editart.
(Duke3d editart guide at my site; essentially the same as SW)

Yeah, the red suicide chick is the only chick in a 3DR game ever to be explicitly topless. Except that robot chick in Duke Atmoic, the topless damaged one with no lower torso lying on the floor. Except it had no nipples.
Anyways hopefully there' be actual nudity in DNF. Imagine, high-poly, high-res jiggling boobs. Then you can blow her to bits and aliens respawn and attack you, of course. http://www.3drealms.com/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif

Not gonna happen.
Getting back to the original question - I can't remember if there is a Walmart edition. I know in Europe, we coudln't legally sell the game with the Shurikens in the game - they had to be replaced with darts.

I'm not sure, but I believe it was only so in the UK, the SW version released in Holland did have the shurikens.

I need some of the Shadow Warrior fans in this forum to help me out. You know the files TILES000.ART & TILES021.ART which are required to view SWBUILD'S 3d edit mode? Well I think I lost the files and I don't know where I can get them or how I can get them back. I can't even find them on the CD.

The art files are hidden in the "Sw.grp" file. Extract them with this command:
kextract sw.grp *.art
Perhaps Mission-X wasn't working because of that btw.

Government regulations. The UK (or England at least) has pretty strict laws when it comes to nudity and violence in the media. Same thing goes for Germany.
Erica Terpstra tried passing laws in Holland to prevent violent games from being sold, but failed. This whole issue was triggered by the release of Carmageddon, a substandard game by any measure, but which sold primarily because of the whole controversy.

You go inside your main SW directory (c:\sw)
then type (at the dos command line):
kextract.exe sw.grp *.art <enter>
Kextract will now extract all tile files from
the Sw.Grp file.

Weird how chainsaws and rocket launchers (in various ID games) are considered LESS violent than Shuriken...
As usual, these things stem from historical incidents and don't really have any logic to them.
Anyway, the basic reason why shuriken, nun chuks, and other weapons are banned from media is because the BBFC consider them too easy to produce for a teenager with access to the media. This was all decided at a time in the early eightees where video censoring had only just started and before that you could get just about ANYTHING on video at ANY age.
Of course, in the age of the internet and global communications these censorship laws are pantently stupid, even 3DR has a Shuriken patch availible for download and I got the shareware version with shuriken in it (also, I noticed in the art, with the replacement darts).

HAHAHAHAHAHA, Have you ever watched ANY British TV? They have plenty of nudity all over public television! Ever watched Topless Darts? Or Lexx? Nudity is certainly not that taboo in Britain, when compared to America.

I live in the UK, so yes, I watch a lot of British TV. Lexx is American/German (not British) hybid sci-fi comedy show, and every episode I've seen had no nudity (perhaps it was cut out).
BTW, the company that made Topless Darts was closed down due to breaking nudity laws.
Bob, I don't know where you get your information from.

Lexx is actually Canadian/German. Can you image the American Networks actually making something like that?

That's my point. Anyways the Lexx series discusses sex every 3 seconds, and yes, many episodes do have nudity. My point was that American television is alot more heavily cencored than British television.
P.S. Shame they cancelled Topless Darts.

So much for kextract. I ended up downloading group file studio and using that to extract files. Thanks anyway though.
