I've played the shareware and thought it was a great game. But I've never actually bought the game. What I'm wondering is, what is better about the full version than the shareware?
Boy, this Shadow Warrior forum is quite a strange place http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif

That's where the confusion arises, I think. Canadians just don't understand Americans. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif
In all seriousness, if that is possible, I think it has to do with having additional Build capabilities that Duke doesn't have--at least not the 3D Realms-released versions. At least for me that's the case. It's also a really nice "looking" game. Can't comment on the personality and music of the game, since I've only played it on a machine that has no sound card http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/blush.gif ->SOB<- http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/blush.gif.

I don't know. I wasn't particularly impressed with the game overall (see my "Beef" thread), and I've played most of it now. Probably the nicest thing about it is that it's ten bucks.
Also, this one fortune cookie message:

well you can get new weapons in the retail version that are new and original. for example Shadow warrior was the first game to have a rail gun, which quake2 quickly ripped off. this game cannot be compared to duke, even tho its uses a modified build engine. it has a diffrent feel, plays faster etc. overall its a great game, i think to appreciate it to its fullest you need to play some mutiplayer games.
I've only played the shareware too, and yes it is awesome. I thought some of the puzzles were really hard, like the jumping-on-the-slabs room in the third(?) level and finding the gold key in the 2nd level. How are the puzzles in the full version?

They can be a pain in the ass. And I do mean a pain in the ass, as in a red hot poker up one's rectum. http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif
But definitely worth it, and it should be fairly cheap by now.

Lo Wang has the most outstanding and distinctively individual personality in absolutely any 3D shooter game -- most of the player characters in other FPS games just grunt, groan and scream. This would already make SW qualify for a classic, alongside the sense of pure magic evoked by some of the levels, such as the Dark Woods of the Serpent. I would therefore procure the registered version as a priceless keepsake, if for no other reason. One more thing: it is only the registered version that will allow you to construct your own SW levels using BUILD.

Um . . . doesn't Duke have a personality?

I said MOST, not ALL other FPS titles. Yes, Duke definitely has a personality too, but he seems to me to come only a close second to Lo Wang in terms of personality -- well, maybe I'm being partial to Lo Wang...

I've played the demo, and it doesnt look like Wang has much of a personality at all. Mabye that'd be different if i played the full version.

Full version is WAY better than the demo. The demo didn't exactly entice me into wanting the actual game, y'know?

Yeah. Maybe i would like the game better if i had all the levels and weapons. You just cant really get into a demo.

SW is highly known for its kick ass level design throughout the game, i suggest you get it if you haven't already. Although it isn't as cool as Duke, it's still a great game.

i think duke is a great game but i think shadow warrior is WAY better. it creates a nice bit of unity in the game, just last week i noticed in dark woods of the serpent near the tank the trees move back and forth with the wind sound. not to mention all the great detail in all the levels. i'm surprised it never became popular.. although one of the reason could be retail runs without the cd.... so it could be easily spread without 3drealms getting the money for it. not to mention playing over ten i meeted some great people and we have a blast in the dm's. oh how long did it take me to figure out how to move the pillars in dark woods?

I think SW is great. I love Duke Nukem, too, and wish some add-on games had been created for SW like has been done for DN. The weapons in SW are fantastic; nothing quite like the nuke!
I play almost everyday, and have been since Duke Nukem's advent. Shadow Warrior has taken up most of my time. As you all know, death match is where it's at.
There are some great user levels out there, along with some really funny RTS files. Definately looking forward to DNF. Would be cool if 3DRealms would do an all new Shadow Warrior, too.
As for personality, I have to give it to Duke. Lo Wang comes off like a goofball too much of the time, but he is funny.

My opinion. Well obviously I rate duke higher, otherwise my name would have wang in it instead. But Shadow Warrior has its moments. 3D Realms had there nice experiment with the build engine by then so they designed some good levels, better designs, but dukes took place in locations we are more familiar with, bars, pool tables, subways, parking lots, etc. No other game has such locations, where Shadow Warrior had some of that too, but not as much (too many temples http://3drealms.3dportal.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif ) Shadow Warrior's story was better though, duke was never much of a story teller. Grahpics shadow warrior is slightly better, it has water transparency, better fogging, and a couple other cool things, leafs flying around (First Game I noticed this in was hexen, but SW's was much cooler, and hexan... SUCKED!), and of course, the thing that made shadow warrior what it is, VEHICLES! Wang's more funny, but he goofs off too much, and if you guys catch those fortune cookie messages, they're a laugh riot. Poor wang though, one of the messages says hes never gonna score, LOL! Duke's got the kick butt attitude though, and Duke is Duke. So overall Duke Nukem 3D gets ten duke heads! Shadow Warrior gets 9!
