Hi there. I have had some problems running Mystic Towers, the 1.11 Registered Version, on my computer with Windows XP. Originally I had tried to install it on the XP computer by opening the file directly from the install.exe but it would not work because of a "runtime error". I also tried the same on an older computer that has DOS, and the file would not run either. Then I tried running it from DOSBox and the install.exe worked fine.

After installing the files, I tried running towers.exe on DOSBox and the file gives me a runtime error and immediately closes DOSbox. When I try to run it outside of DOSBox by opening the file from within Windows Explorer, the file does not work either. I am not really sure of the problem, but it seems to be a universal problem and not just a problem with my floppy disk. I know this because I tried running the install.exe and towers.exe files from the disk of the registered version of the game, and a shareware disk. Both do not work on either disc. When I try to run the program using VDMSound through Windows Explorer, this is the error message I am given.

After pressing any key to continue, the DOS prompt immediately closes.

Does anyone have any solution to this problem? Am I doing something wrong? This is pretty much the only Apogee game in which I've encountered problems when running it from DOSBox or through Windows Explorer. Thanks.

For DOSBox:

Could you try the shareware version downloadable from this site as well ? (would give us shared frame of reference).

VDMSound:
runtime error 200 can usually be solved by running some bppatch I recall. Google might help you futher.

Are you using the latest DOSBox build? I just tried it and the game worked flawlessly, but you have to make sure you don't give it too many cycles (<5000) or else the sound seems to take a turn for the worse.
