In the past few months Ive realised that Im about as excited about being able to make maps for DNF as I am about being able to play DNF.

I did a lot of map making for duke3d, and Half-Life. My 'specialty' was mulitplayer maps. I was good at making balanced maps that were well connected and lots of fun to play. In particular, for HL, I made maps of places in my hometown, then I would play the maps with my buddies from around town, and it was super fun because we were killing eachother in our own streets.
Even with all the textures that HL came with, I was still unable to really capture what my town actually looked like. And I suck as an artist so making my own textures was not an option.
Im betting that DNF will ship with oodles of city textures, so that I can finally really do a good job of creating my town in the game. Oh man I cant wait.

A digital camera is what you need, to grab the "looks" of your hometown ;)

yea i thought of that, and its a great idea (btw, is this what 3dr is doing to capture the vegas look?)
but its way too much work for someone to not get paid...
thats why im looking forward to DNF- im sure it will have thousands of 'city' textures to choose from... so ill probably be able to pick something very close to the actual texture for just about all my needs.

Don't count on it, I am sure they will have all the textures in that they created (no reason not to), but don't count on thousands of city textures, because they are having different levels on different settings (city, desert, space, etc)

It would be cool though. ;)

Im not saying I expect every possible city texture to be available in DNF, im just saying Im expecting quite a bit more than HL had. And HL had quite a few.

HL as in HALF-LIFE? It had no city textures whatsoever, it had a city skybox, but all textures within HL were for Black Mesa, Lambda, civilian, Desert, and Xen areas.

Though im going to assume you meant HL2. :)

Like Theonewayman already said, you can use a digital camera to make photos of the roads, and parts of the buildings in your town, etc. After that you can try a program like TextureMaker to convert your photos to fitting textures. That wouldn't be too hard if you've tried it out for a while. Unfortunately I've never tried mapping in Duke3D before, I only did mapping for 2D games, and I've even made some 2D tilesets. But I'm soon going to improve my skills on 3D mapping by using Duke3D..

Hopefully, they will have a lot of textures.

I don't care to resize and import textures either, so I'd rather they just include a ton of them. :)
