Happened to me sometimes too...
Sometimes it accepts it without "www", and other times, it requires you to type that in...

Don't leave off the www and you'll be fine.

In most any browser you can just type in the domain without WWW and .COM and hold CTRL and tap ENTER - it'll put in the www. and .com for you.
So type in: 3drealms
Then: CTRL+ENTER
*SHIFT + ENTER = .net
*CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER = .org
*Firefox at least

Actually, that's relatrively new behaviour in Firefox. It didn't always do that.
IE's done it for years. I missed that when I switched from IE to Firefox.

you could also do a spyware check, many time at school i was redirected to some lame ass search site eventhough i correctly typed the url, with and without the http://www stuff.
a spyware check promptly fixed it.
might not be the real problem in this case, but do so anyway just to make sure ;) :)

Might be that you just have problems accessing the servers for some reason, (thus redirecting you to MSN search automatically instead of showing a 404). Its a "feature" of IE.
