Did a search and don't see a topic on this, so perhaps I'm the only one who doesn't like them. I especially don't like how their posts show up in the "Last Post" area, and then I click on the top level forum and that post isn't anywhere to be found of course. I know I can click directly on the topic itself in the "Last Post" column, but that's not how I am used to browsing the forums. Anyway, maybe I'm the only one they bother, but here's at least one vote to get rid of them.
What would be really nice is if instead of having to use techniques like this, or us only being allowed to hide or show entire categories of forums, if we could simply tick off what we want to show and what we want hidden forum by forum. For example, I NEVER visit the Max Payne forum, but it takes up space in my browser because I often visit General Gaming.
Suggestions that are probably not do-able with the forum software, but perhaps they could be pushed back to the software maker if anyone agrees.
Thanks. :)
Well that's how all forum software handles sub-forums but if you wish to make suggestions for future revisions of vBulletin then go to vbulletin.com and post in the forums there.

No, you aren't the only one who doesn't like them. I've stated this many times on vB forums - but the main problem is that there just isn't enough room on the main page for all these forums.
Personally I feel if a forum section is used frequently it should be on the front page anyway and if one isn't used at all it ought to be deleted.
A mod section could encompass all games from Max Payne to Unreal.....theres no real reason to section them off. I also thought the Prey forum was enough and don't see much use for the sub-sections but I guess it won't matter as all my posts will be unfortunately moved into a section I don't even read.
I don't know thats just how I see it, but it doesn't bother me so much that I can't live with it. Its just to me I feel they have little to no use.

I think the current setup is peachy. I sometimes find an interesting thread in the "latest post" box in a forum or subforum I wouldn't normally visit.
If I really needed the ultimate last-post accuracy, I'd use an RSS feed from that forum.

That's how it's always been done, it was done with Max Payne and will also be done with the DNF forums eventually.
The current setup is perfect and will not be changed in any forseeable future.

Quite a statement.
Anyway, no big deal, I just don't really like that one design feature, and preferred the way it was handled with the previous software. I figured it was something inherent in the new forums. I still think we should have the ability to turn off each and every forum we don't want to see, but that's obviously not possible with the current software.
As far as me going to the forums of the software maker and making suggestions, that's not how the world works. I am not their customer. 3DRealms is their customer, and I am 3DRealms' customer. If 3DR gets enough people all agreeing on new forum features they'd like to see, it would make sense for them (as opposed to their customers) to go back to the software maker and pass on the info and suggestions, since they're the ones paying (presumably) for the software. In this case, since the product 3DR is offering to us is free (i.e. the forums) they may not care to make the effort. Up to them.
Anyway, overall, I find these forums to be the best organized that I visit. I wasn't complaining. Just making a suggestion and trying to see if anyone else agreed.

Well, it wasn't handled AT ALL with the old software. The old software had no concept of "sub forum". Everything was a forum. I'd have one long list of forums now. The idea here was to shorten it.
If I did it the way that the old forums did it, the list would be way off the screen, and that was a complaint I got - too many forums.

Actually, in this case no. For two reasons. 1) 3DR (me) doesn't want that feature; I think it's fine the way it is. 2) This is software anyone can use. Quite fraquently, end users go to the software maker and make suggestions as ADM said.
