View Full Version : Prey Multiplayer Server - Exclusive to 3DR Members

I'll be hosting a Prey dedicated server (or if not applicable, non-dedicated but online) server at approximately 9:20 Pacific Time--basically 15-20 minutes after the demo is released on Gamespot.
Server Name: Duke4.net MultiPrey Server
Password (if prompted): dopefish
IP Address: I'll post it later if necessary, but it probably won't be.
I'm aware that MultiPrey handles up to 8 players, so get your ass in there before it's too late. ;)
I'm located in Los Angeles, so your ping should be fine if you live in the U.S. I've played with people in different countries (overseas) as well, and they were able to play fine without much lag. I'm maintaining a pretty good upload speed (90 kilobytes/s up), so as to avoid lag as much as possible.
PS. I'm reserving spots for anyone from 3DR or HumanHead who would like to join us. I'm only willing to play MP firsthand in an effort to play with the developers (or people involved with the game), so please don't crush my life's dream and stuff. :( If you're someone like Joe, please let me know in advance so I can reserve a spot for you (which means I'll have to start kicking random clients if the server gets full too early, so please don't take it personally). I'll post a reply to this thread once the server is online for sure.
PSS. We totally need a Prey thread icon (just like there's Max Payne, ROTT, Duke, and SW icons). ;)

I'm planning on playing people tonight after release. However, my immediate time right after the launch time will be spent making sure people can download it. A little after that though.

How long will the server be up?
I've calculated everything. The demo is 450 MB, I download at 450 kb/s which is equal to 1 MB per 2.2 seconds. 2.2x450 = 990 seconds. 990/60 = 16.5 minutes. Takes me a few mins to install and set graphics options / optimize my controls options, and I'm ready. :)
The server will be up for at least two hours I hope.

Well, I'll probably jump into MP the second it finishes downloading, so if I see your server I'll pop right in. It'll be really great if people like Joe and George/HH guys get a chance to play a little with us. Hopefully we can keep in touch here, to arrange that kind of thing.

Something seems to be wrong... I've been told that my server isn't appearing on the list even though I made sure it was in online mode. I'll try again at a later time. :(

Anyone else setting one up? Got a router Yatta? Maybe you need to forward the port. I haven't played D3 much in MP so I wouldn't know.

Heh played a bit on Spooger's server but it was a bit too laggy for me. Don't know if it was on my end or it was just the server but I did have a 200 - 300 ping.

Yeah, I host a server called "For 3DRForum buddies" or something like that :) (It's not currently up). I shouldn't really be hosting more than 4 people on my connection :\
Anyhow, I'll probably turn the server back on in a few so keep your eyes open people :D
Multipreyer lags too much for me, even everything at low. :(

Well, I *did* have a 8 player server up for a little bit. Thanks to all who joined.
Sorry about the lagging towards the end. I have to play around with the settings more. I doubt I'll be able to host more than 4-6. More likely 4.

Damnit, at one point, it was pending from 999 to 1500... :eek:
And when nothing was going on, it was on 230... That really sucked... :(
I got to kill Joe and Yatta a few times though, despite this major lag problem...
But anyways, first time i played Multiprey, and DAmn it's funny... :D I can see myself playing this very often, when i'm getting bored...

But on a more "balanced" server (regarding ping)
It should be so, that everyone has a fair amount of ping going on then...
I wouldn't want to join again, if it goes as wrong as last time...:o

im not shure what i should host at..
sadly no 3drealms servers where up when i checked the server list..
but ill still test multiplayer with different settings... to see what settings i should use when i host..
Anybody who wants to join to help me test is welcome..
a little warning tho.. its a european server (denmark to be exact).
EDIT:
Im at school right now.. but when i get home have spring break (vacation) to the 31/07 - 2006
so ill have lots of time to host and multiprey.. more details on my server when i get home..

Yes, that was the second one i tried after Yatta shut his server down...
The ping was alot better on those (no wonder, they are alot nearer from where i live)
I believe i'll be playing on those further on, or others, if they are good enough...

I'm increased the limit to 10 players. Password is dopefish, so only people from here can join. Get your ass in there--I'm not sure how much longer I'll be online. :)

Whatever people announce here, but I occasionally browse the server list with the 'players' tab open to see if anyone I know is on. :) Other than that I pop in random servers.

That was fun, but my ping was bad and my hardware is crappy so I had problems to hit anyone. Then it somewhat got stuck and I had to reboot :(

Your ping was acceptable considering we were playing overseas, though. You did well with those disadvantage in mind. :)

I feel, bad, because i couldn't join...
I saw the server active, but the ping simply is too high for me...
Instead, i was playing with Kristian Joensen, and experimenting, and comenting on the game... That was really funny too...
I almost thought the portal above the forcefield was a secret, to get the crawler launcher (is that what it's called)
But then i found a way to it... After several wierd and crazy experiemnts me and Kristian tried... (yeah, you CAN'T make Sunbeam jumps... :o)

Anyways, i better stick to the servers where the ping is lower anyways... It won't stop the errors from coming, but then at least it runs well...
