its a nice feature but I really cant understand why a spirit cant fly or go past doors
I guess it will **** up gameplay but it seems more logic that it cant pass force barriers and pass trough normal barriers
now its the other way around, not that it really bugs me but it did surpise me
Well nothing can be said about logic since it's an alien environment so we have no idea how spirits can behave realistically there :)

You said it yourself. Prey would be all about sitting duck and progressing in Spirit mode only.

it doesn't need to be logical, it's a sci-fi game. :p
if you could go through all doors then it'd completely screw up the game.

Did you see the spirit 'bridges' and the spirit, eh, stuff leaking out of a hole in the wall? When you first spirit walk through a field to turn it off, hammer a couple of the small guys (antibodies?), turn spirit mode back on, and a ramp appears that lets you walk up to the ammo on the little deck. At the back of the deck is a hole in the flesh with spirit goop pouring out. You can't see it in normal mode, like the ramp. What is that (if you're at liberty to say)?

They use spirit walls to stop you from progressing in the game soley in spirit mode. (i.e. the spirit wall they used right before you enter the bar after it was abducted so you had to enter with your body)
I believe that you will be able to open doors in singleplayer while in spirit walk.
I agree with DavoX when he says that Tommy is just learning about his powers.

At first I thought that "spirit goop" was blocking some kind of secret area, and that there was a way to get through it or behind it, but I tryed for about a half hour with no luck getting there.
I dont know why its there, it doesnt seem to do anything.

It's ectoplasm!!!
What's odd is the railing is broken in spirit mode yet normal and "fixed" when normal.
I can explain why the spirit might have the inability to go through doors but the ability to go through a shield.
What is a door? A solid mass of any element that the maker finds suitable. What is a shield? A field of some form of energy condensed and amplified and projected in a very specific pattern either between or around a specific location.
The difference? The spirit can pass through energy that would harm the physical human body. It can pass through plasma (fire) and energy (shields) but it is still restricted to the normal plains of reality in terms of solid objects. If solid objects were not a limitation, then they wouldn't be able to stand on the ground, or walk around. If they could float, that's another story, but they cannot.
The reason the spirits can't stand on a wallwalking segment is also easy to think about (pointing this out because I say they follow most physical restrictions). The wallwalking requires direct contact with your foot against the wall. It creates a gravitational distortion around the object touching it, though, so that the object can move freely on it and not need to fight with the actual gravity, but it still requires direct, physical contact. Since the spirit is not a physical entity, it is incapable of sticking to the walkways.
I hope I managed to get most of my hypothesis correct.
EDIT TO ADD: If the spirit WAS able to go through doors, then it would also not have the ability to go and push buttons, like the one movable walkway in the SP portion of the demo, so it does have limitations built in that are both useful yet limiting.
