Prey on 360 region free? [Archive]

I really want to get this game, despite my other post about character modelling everything else is spot on.

However I want the LE version and I know its up to the developers to region code the games...Since the LE version is apparently not coming to Europe can the devs please advise if they will make it region free?

Am on hands and knees in tears, I need something decent for my 360 and Prey seems to be the only best thing around however since it was said in another thread US arent really interested in the LE version then why waste a good thing?

Please make it region free so gamers in Europe can at least import the best
3D realms has to offer in their fully featured superb LE version of Prey.

Pretty please with a cherry on top? :)

2 Things:

1) I dont think this game is a 360 exclusive so its not a Microsoft game

2) I believe Microsoft said its up to the developers to region code games.

A minute ago you were insulting the crap out of us over the modeling, and now it's "the best". Which is it?

You'll be able to buy it in Europe too. Or so I'm told. You don't need to import it.

I wasnt insulting you directly or the creators I was just upset over the character modelling thats all - you have to ask yourself really though if you had gone out and bought a 360 or powerful graphics card and got home to play the latest game and found out it didnt really look that amazing surely you would say something? Or maybe not but we are only human (no pun intended haha).

But however I wish to apologise if you found me to be insulting it was not meant intentionally nor was I venting anger at the developers in such an angry manner that I was flaming the game for being rubbish - far from it.

So you are saying that the Ltd edition will or might be available in Europe? Have the retailers decided to say yes or is Take 2 hearing us and saying *We will gladly accept your extra money* hahaha - which I am all too happy to part with because this IS a game worth buying.

Devs again sorry and you have done very well, if the game looks anything like the way it did on my measly 6600GT PCI-E card haha or better then I will be shocked because to be quite frank this game looks spectacular i.e. weapons and scenery and enemies :-)

I didn't say there is definitely no LE for Europe, I said that AT THE MOMENT they are only available for USA and Canada and it's up to 2k to bring it to Europe.

Oh really? So one min you are correcting the person above saying he meant the normal version now you are saying otherwise? Which is it?

Joe DID mean that it will be the normal version. I am simply saying that there is still a possibility for the LE to come to Europe but it's up to 2K to bring it there.

Simple as that.

Thanks Qwerty, there are many games on the 360 that are region free, you can see which ones are on playasia.com however as I said its up to the developers to make the game region free.

Since its unlikely the LE version will not come to Europe am very sorry to say this but I feel soo strongly about it that I might no even buy the game in the UK where I am - If I cannot have the LE version then I will not buy the normal version. I know its harsh but as I said I feel very strongly about it.

US/CAN sitting there with a big grin with their LE version and me sitting there with a £49.99rrp converted to US Dollar is around $85 for the normal version is soo unfair :(

I know its upto to Take 2/ 2K games but why dont they come on this forum and explain themselves?

Being in Australia (Pal) and having an NTSC console it would be handy if it was so I could buy a local copy, however if it is not I would like to order a US copy ASAP.

The game isn't even out yet, I'm saying that 2K can always bring the LE to Europe PRIOR to the release. Not 6 months after, I never said that.

Why would they do that? At the end of the day its more money for publisher and developer isnt it? I am all set and ready to pay the extra - Europe especially UK already pays tons more for games anyways.

£49.99rrp for 3rd party games is equal to around $85!

Only the devs can now really confirm if it is really region free, I am curious to why they just wont say yes or no.

As far as I know, all 360 games by standard do not have region specific coding. The only thing holding back playback in other countries would be pal v ntsc compatability. Some games will likely be dual capable (I have no idea if prey is), but I hope you have an ntsc compatable television.

I think this has more to do with regional coding of the DVD then with the PAC/NTSC stuff. :)
Still, I think that the games are usually regional free. :)

Only PC games are region free.

360 games are region locked depending on whether the developers or publishers want it that way.

Some 360 games are region free and some are not.

Here is hoping that PREY NTSC is region free so I can play on my PAL system.

I havent cancelled my UK order yet but am ready to press the fire button as soon as more solid info is given however dvdboxoffice still havent shipped my game! :mad:

In regards to Oblivion Europe or UK as I am aware of got Oblivion collectors Edition same as the USA/CAN.

I mean at the end of the day devs said USA wasnt interested in the collectors edition so why waste a good thing? Why not Let everyone know that its region free so Europe and Australia and other parts of the world can enjoy it instead sheesh?!!

Well since I found out PREY *might* be region free I cancelled the UK order...just got an e-mail from Dvdboxoffice in Canada that due to their supplier they are expecting PREY LTD Edition by the end of the week!! NOOOOOOOOO so I said to cancel that too.

Anyone from UK use any other site that posts to the UK/Europe? Also need to be cheap including postage as the LE was costing me £40 on import and I want the game quick as well. :insomnia:

the Collectors edition is a US thing only from what i hear... If you want that, you should order it from the US as well...

UK is not part of US (yeah, you knew that , i know) So obviously, it shouldn't be avaiblae there... Unless they somehow has got LCE shipments over there...
In that case, then why wasn't the LCE made available to Europe too..?

Anyways, i'm fairly sure it's a US thing only... That's wher ei ordered my version aswell... From US to Denmark...

I'm surprised actually, that it is so damn cheap for me as it is actually... :Cool:

Yeah I got my copy from DVD Box Office as I wanted the LCE. I'm getting the Triton version to play it in the mean time as it'll take up to 3 weeks to get here supposedly.

I just tried ordering from Gamespot.com...I setup an account said I am from UK put the LTD in my cart go to checkout and they cant ship it!! WTF?! And I cant contact them via e-mail either it seems.

Its not my day!! So I have lost out on the pre-order extra figurine and now I cant even order from Gamespot.com what gives? I cant use EB games as they dont ship to UK.

Who else is left? :(

The review from Gamespot is a joke i guess so dont pay any attention to it , love IGN instead.

First off if you don't want to wait 3 weeks then just buy the main copy from the shops and then wait for the LCE and then sell off the copy you bought originally.

Secondly it's GameSTOP, Gamespot is the game review/news site.

I just rung Gamestop.com from my mobile phone in the UK to see why it wont allow me to purchase PREY LTD for the 360 apparently Microsoft doesnt allow Gamestop to ship Xbox 360 related goods outside of the US! WTF?!!!! :mad:

You can get DHL Courier which takes 2 - 5 days, but of course you have to pay for that (over $12.95 depending on where you live as well)

So sorry man. My BestBuy has 10 LCE's in stock. But they're all "in the back" and those slow movin' foo's still have the pre-order boxes on the shelf! I had one of the guys take an LCE from the back, now I have it here right next to me. I'm at work now, looking through the Art Booklet! I'm trying to imagine what it must be like to have someone ink these thoughts on to paper and then you having to transfer that into digital model and make it all move... Wow, what a job.... HH, you fellows are amazing, congrats!

Uhm, you do know that you most likely have to pay import taxes in the U.K. because it comes from outside of Europe. :) (Or did they say that was included in the price?)

Import tax isnt guarenteed to occur, I have imported and bought many items on import including PSP, games etc and have NEVER paid import tax ;)

At the end of the day if the game is indeed region free I dont care if it costs me even £60!

My copy here works on my UK 360 :) it was worldwide signed, so no region locking....

Take 2 controls all of that. That's why even 3DR, HH and Venom had to wait for Take 2 to send copies to them.

Yes it will work on all version of the console. I dont have a collectors edition here :( only a regular one, i guess i should start harrassing people into getting a nice shiney metal boxed version

Take2 defines the region locking when they submit to MS... and yes i am venom staff ;) a lowly programmer
