Tried reinstalling the demo multiple times and still get the same thing:

Run the exe and get a grey screen (no sound) then thrown right back to desktop. no warning or errors or anything.

Check system properties->advanced->error reporting. Make sure its on for all programs and theres no blank entries in the do not report box. This should give you the box of the error when programs crash.

Except multiplayer locks and I have to reboot....
Could be a firewall issue.

a firewall would cause the game to physically lock the machine? the minute I hit "multiprey" it locks. no cpu activity or anything...hrm I will see what else I can do

My firewall was causing Prey to lock in the same conditions, so yes it's possible.

If the game tries to send an authentication request and it can't because the firewall is blocking it, then obviously there's going to be an issue.
