Well,

the Demo kinda rocks and so.

But there is something wrong with the sound speaker setup in the options menue.
This also was in Doom 3 and Quake 4.

The problem is, that my surround sound is not detected. I have 4.1 and it only lets me use stereo.

Only a little file written for Doom3 could bypass this.

It's called DirectSound Control V1.7 and there is a DSound.dll included.
Only with this dll the surround sound works.
So the developers at 3drealms or Human Head may have a look at this issue.

Since this bug exists as long as the Doom3 engine exists, it should really be fixed by now.

I have a similar problem, 7.1 speaker set on a audigy 4, works fine with all other titles, just prey does not like it (have newest drivers).

I get only stereo (and no subwoofer). No clue about some files, but this should get fixed for the full version...

Are you using open al with eax enabled?

First of all you should *not* have this issue when using the OpenAL mixer.

These issues come from the fact that the default audio mixer (the Doom3 engine's software mixer) only allows 'surround' when the speaker mode is 5.1. This may have been fixed in newer release of Doom3/Quake4 that they also allow 'surround' when in 4 channel mode.

It will look at whatever is set in the Microsoft Control Panel under Audio/Speaker mode.

And there is set 4.1 because I have a 4.1 system.

Hmmmm, odd. I have a 4.1 surround sound system (Cambridge Soundworks FPS2000 Digital) and I get surround sound with Prey. Sound card is a SB Platinum Live. So I don't understand why it doesn't work on the audigy 4, let alone other systems. Not saying you only get stereo, I'm sure you do. Just wondering if you have your speakers set correctly in the mixer that comes with your card (had to specifically tell my mixer from creative labs I had a quadrophonic setup for my speakers to work correctly).
