Help on Stargunner

i need help with stargunner. im running windows98 and using a clone amd 450 with a maxigamer 3dfx card. when i run stargunner it keeps going back into the windows desktop, and if i run it from dos mode, the system locks up with colored bars on screen and i have to reset to get system back. any ideas.
