Hiya,
I read previously about the adjustable difficulty in Prey rather than have an easy /medium / hard etc. but I'm worried that it's going to be too easy ?
I've played twice through the demo now and not died once other than the bit on the bridge where you have to die.
I hope the rest of the game's not gonna be this easy or it'll be over in one sitting.
?
In the full version they'll be a mode called cherokee which is unlocked after you complete the game. There will be no health pickups and much harder difficulty setting, so there you go :)

It's like max payne? The first run is for fun, than comes the one to play and after that comes the big thing to do? ;)

Erm,
I want it to be hard the FIRST time I play it so it's a challenge.
If there's no challenge I might as well just watch a movie.

The first hour of the game is meant to be pretty easy, to let players get used to it. You will find combat getting harder past the demo.

Good, because one of my complains was that there were not enough ennemies in the demo. :)

Good, since the demo was truely a bit easy, never problems with health, with ammo etc (theres so much of ammo around... ;)).

gaming/fps experience told that us. the demo's degree of difficulty is actually like expected, if that is prey's "normal" severity. i'm okay with the difficulty. i like it, when sp games tend to be a bit easier, i want to have a relaxed and fun play time. if i'm looking for a real challenge i start up quake 3 and get a lesson by some 13 year old kid.

Really there is so much to get accostomed to in the gameplay, on the alien ship, that I think implementing a a smooth gradient to the gameplay is a good thing.

I prefer to put the game to the hardest level setting before playing the game for the first time. Then when I experience the game it's tough and everything is still very new to me, so it's a lot more fun for me that way.
But not having the choice means of having to wait till I complete it on easy to do that, puts me right off, I only play them the once and forget about them soon afterwards.
Take this for a example Doom3 on easy made the game feel just lame and took the fun out of it, when I found you could access the harder settings by changing the file. The game was for me a hell of a big difference in fun, panic from lack of ammo, health that drops constantly. That made the game much better for me.
So please can we have the choice to do so, I hate going through a area of a game on a harder difficulty as you know what to expect then at each point in the level.
If not can we change the files......
please please please please :D

Substantially harder? I can imagine that this game could be made a nightmare pretty easily [and with full dose of awesome to boot]. Aliens on the roof, the walls and everywhere else all after you would be very interesting. As it is the demo was a little bit of a let-down in this area. I was sort of hoping for crazy combat situations with stuff flying at you from all directions.

so your walking around with no health at all the whole time?.....also, my guess is that you can unlock Cherokee thru the cfg., but for me I like to work up to nightmare. I thought Q4 was too hard on nightmare, I don't like to spend the whole time shooting and hiding like on "Legendary" in Halo. "Fear" is pretty good and those fighting scenarios can help your MP skills too. 1st impression is that Prey enemies are a lot like Q4 which is bad, but, happily, the story line immerses you in the game .Q4 storyline was lame and insulting,"Corporal Kaine, you need to go into the room and press the button, then walk three steps and press the next button. Do you understand Corporal Kaine?" Uch!!!!!

I imagine that you're usually walking around with around 1/2 health or so and require spirit shooting to get back up again.
However given how easy shooting the spirits is already....

You could always let you health get real low at first and dont use the health pickups or save game.

Wasn't there like a really wasy way of getting nightmare mode unlocked in Doom 3 by changing a value in a config file? I imagine it will be the same for Prey. No reason for the people over at Human Head to touch that part of the code.

To me Prey seems to be more about story and adventure than just killing really smart AI. If I wanted to play an AI-centric shooter I'd play FEAR. Prey is more about exploration and experience than combat. Prey's combat is far more interesting than many other shooters though, due to the fact that you are killing strange things that are coming out of nowhere and running up walls and switching gravity. FEAR just has a bunch of generic soldiers that can jump over boxes and shoot from behind cover... wowee.
You'll get to die and hunt in the spirit world enough in the full game.

Could you explain the design behind the death walk?
At the beginning I thought it was a really great idea to not interrupt the action, but the way it was implemented it really feels like a "god mode". There's just no way to lose if you keep returning at no loss. There's absolutely no penalty for dying.
I think a better implementation could have been at least to make damaged monsters regain full health when the player dies, so that it wouldn't be just about an act of perseverance and more about fighting well.

To everyone making comments about the difficulty of the demo: I'm sure that if you go back to most (if not all) of the games that you own, you'll find that the early sections of the game are always easy, lots of ammo, etc.
Personally, I prefer a demo like FEAR, which was a bunch of level sections stitched together. It gave more of a sense of what the game would be like.
The benefit of the Prey demo, though, is that I can jump into the retail game on level 6 :)

Prey is like playing Contra with infinite continues. You might die a lot but there's no consequence for it. Kinda bugs me.

It does (well it would if immerged was a word), but it comes at a cost. I know what they were trying to do, but it means beating the game on Cherokee isn't really an acheivement of skill, for example.

I hate it when I die and I go back super far. Especially in games like KOTOR and Chaos Theory where autosaves are gone or seldom. I like the Prey does death. Instead of having to repeat the same thing over and over again you go straight back to the action. Besides, nobody should say it's to easy when they haven't played the full game.

It's apparently quite easy according to the people I've spoken with who have played the game now. Most of the reviews comment on the difficulty being on the low side as well.
Either the ADD fails to work or has only a negligible effect.

Actually, I heard that the system does work, and the game gets harder as you progress.

"Prey's campaign won't take too long, and it's rarely difficult, which makes it a solid choice if you're looking for an easy weekend romp. But much of the game's potential for unique thrills feels wasted by its straightforward level design, and the multiplayer doesn't add much to the package. Fans of the genre have probably played games better than Prey in the past, but the action and the environments you move through are interesting enough to make playing through the game worthwhile."

YEA ! That's why I loved (Still love to death) F.E.A.R. because the demo, didn't spoil the game. Unlike Prey... well the first five levels are already spoiled. Oh well, I still look forward to playing them again. I usually play the SP part more than once anyways.

I hated the FEAR demo; it was only like 10 minutes tops. The Prey demo was the best demo in a long time. Meaty enough for those on the fence and a great teaser for those looking forward to the game.

There is an option to turn off the ADD system. That should please some people. :)
