I don't know if it's just me, but has anyone here played the old arcade game from 1988 by Capcom called "Forgotten Worlds"? The main character in it looks a LOT like Duke Nukem. Here are some screen shots if you wanna judge for yourself:

Steve,
Yes, that character does look very similar to Duke Nukem. I think we should comparing to how Duke looked in the first two games.

Duke Nukem I Title Screen (1991):
http://www.apogee1.com/duke1/images/title_em.jpg

Duke Nukem II Box Art (1993):
http://www.apogee1.com/duke2/images/duke2.jpg

The character in Forgotten Worlds looks more like the Duke in Duke3D and later with the sunglasses and spiked hair. Interesting.

By the way, here is Scott Miller's explaination on the orgin of Duke's appearance:
"...Anyway, uploaded to me a short graphics demo that had this crude person jumping around. Todd's name for the game was something like Metal Future (though that wasn't it exactly -- I can't remember the exact name). I asked him if he had a character name and he said Duke Nukem. I immediately loved the name and told hem that that should be the game's name. I also defined the character for Todd based on what I thought the name Duke Nukem conveyed, and then I found two other artists to dramatically redraw the character: [1] Jim Norwood, who later created Bio Menace on his own, and then was the lead designer on Shadow Warrior, and [2] George Broussard, before I asked him to join Apogee as my partner -- Yes, George used to be a halfway decent artist."

So what I'd look like that to if i was really beefy and wore sunglasses.... Duke Nukem isn't the most original looking character... there's alot of people who look like him.

We know about this character, but it's just a total coincidence. Forgotten Worlds happens to be one of my all-time favorite games, and years ago I mentioned that in my plan file, even noting the similarity between Duke and this game's character. But it was never intended that way.

Are you guys positive it's just a coincidence... I mean maybe when you were making Duke Nukem 3d you had forgotten worlds stuck in the back of your mind and made him look like that without even knowing it... and those lizard dudes kinda look like Enforcers.

Whoa, that's cool, I never even heard of the game, I was just looking at arcade game screen shots and saw it, noticed it looked like Duke, downloaded it, beat it, deleted it. Heh, my list of games that I've beaten is at 174 now. A friend of mine tells ne that "Unknown Soldier" in Marvel Vs. Capcom is the same character. I don't know how much that looks like Duke Nukem, but...

Anyway, though, how long has that machine been next to the pinball machine? Heh, could've been subconcience! ...I didn't spell that right, did I?

It's always more interesting when there is a secret meaning.

You know, I should be ashamed, but I was watching...ugh...Captain Planet and the Planeteers a few months back, and one of the "villains" on the show is named Duke Nukem. I did a little check on IMDb, and the show dates to 1990, whereas Duke Nukem I was released in 1991!

Please lord, let this be a bizarre coincidence ;_;

Actually EB, I believe that character is the one referred to as causing a copyright dispute in the Apogee faq. (Apogee's crack research staff found out between Duke Nukum and Duke Nukem II that the character was not copyrighted, and went with Nukem from then on.)

Hey UltraGameFreak, I was a big Blake Stone fan. I loved that game, especially all of the new textures & aliens in the game. Sadly enough, I can't play this game on my system anymore. Even if I could, I can't find the disks to install it, so I guess I'm up the creek without a creek. But I do remember the game well & I think that it was one of the oldies but goodies http://www.3drealms.com/ubb/images/icons/grin.gif.
