any chances DNF will support trackir (http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/02-products/product-how-TrackIR-works.html)?

i think its fairly simple to implement... at least in 2 axis, yaw and pitch...

Hmm, I'm not sure how I'd feel playing a game while also having to be concious of whether or not I was sitting perfectly still. Seems a little wierd.

I hope not.

Who the hell thought it'd be a good idea to play some music(ringing, whatever) on their site and not make a mute button?

Anyway, mouse and keyboard works fine...

I think if that tech really works, it would be awesome.

TrackIR + Wiiimote = future?

its not like you will control your body movement with it :) you still need mouse and keyboard for that!! with trackir you could just move your head to "look" left, right, up, down etc and i "think" its kinda cool...

I remember even duke 3d had special keys to look left right up and down... so whats wrong with that if you could now do it with your head movemet :)

and hell-angel, this is by no means "required" feature to play the game... you could still play without it very well as you have done it. I just thought that it would be cool if people who are interested in that/have that device would be able to use it instead of "look" left right etc keys

Hmmza I agree with hell-angel here, the mouse serves well enough :)

And then you move your head away from the monitor. You character looks left but you can't see it. ;)
Not a good idea IMO and the troubles to implement it would not be worth it I guess.

no :) your movement is amplified and totally adjustable as you like...

yeah i agree that if it is a lot of trouble to implement then its pobably not worth it... but i think it should be fairly easy... just accept inputs from that device and map to head movement... (im not a game developer though so i could be wrong :) )

That's the theory yes, but I think there are much more important features that needs implementing. Especially since this device is not used that much. Especially not by gamers.
The idea is nice, I just think that it's not really useful for gaming. :)

I think id look a little silly moving around in circles in front of my computer. If you were strafing around an enemy, and need to constantly turn in a certain direction. I dont think that would be possible without taking your eyes off the screen.

But about support...
If the hardware turns your movement into x-y movement you might be able to set it up like a joystick. But im not sure where the movement gets transferred into data. If it has to happen inside the program then I doubt 3DR will feel it necessary to add support.

you dont understand :) you cant move or strafe with that thing. You move your body, walk etc with your mouse and keyboard as usual... This thing lets you only move your head

I like to play racing sim games and in those games its definately useful if you can look out of side windows while taking sharp turns etc...
but of course i would have to try it before i can say is it useful in FPS or not :)

I don't think that should be the main focus of the devteam. Imo I don't see a future in things like this... maybe the wii controllor will be fun but I don't want to move anything more then my arm/hand. Its just not comfortable playling like that. I remember playing Duke3D in a virtual reality (with glasses on and a remote control to move around) and it was fun but nothing that could be implemented at home.

I think it SHOULD let you move and strafe. I think moving a little to the side would feel really natural when a rocket is coming towards you. Currently we have to take this natural reflex and turn it into a keypress, or joystick move. The same for turning.

In THEORY it is a good, natural device. Now we just have to wait for a good implementation (a la Apple) IMO. Some R&D $$$ needed.

Just turning your head, but not actually aiming your weapon, or moving. That dosnt sound like its worth the [our] money or the [3drealms] time.

The moving and aiming, is still done with the mouse and keyboard...
The fact that you can move around your head, makes the game seem like you're "there"...
I beleive you have a greater point of view that way...

Yeah, it's the closest we could ever get to Virtual reality for regular games...
I think it's cool the this thing exists... Would be awesome to own one...
