This was a while ago but I swear it's true. I saw ROTT in a mall arcade! This can't be legal. (It cost 6 quarters so I didn't play though). What's going on?

i seriously doubt it was ROTT.
you don't just port a PC game to an arcade game like that.
that takes time and money, and you need to sell it to a lot of arcades to gain some profit.

Well, what was the name of the arcade game that you saw? I seriously doubt that it was ROTT too, it may have been a look-alike game or something.

The title screen said Rise of the Triad on it...

ROTT in the arcade? http://www.3drealms.com/ubb/images/icons/shocked.gif

Seriously, who said it was ported? It was probably a PC in arcade cabinet housing. Perhaps it was a prototype, seeing if people would play it before producing them in bulk.
That's my best guess.

Yes, there are a lot of PCs in arcade cabinets. A couple weeks ago I was at an arcade in Eureka, and they had this baseball game, well I went back there, unplugged it, plugged it back in, and when it came back on, it booted like a PC and ran scandisk. No shit.

Arcade games are like a big PC, they have a mother board and everything.

sort of, they have a dedicated single board called the PCB from which the whole game is controlled from.

Hey - I've heard several people talk about this over the years, but I've never seen it.

Can someone go to this arcade and take a couple of pictures of it for me?

No - it's legit. We used to license our games for arcade play.

I'll try, but it's all the way across the city and might not be there. My parents won't like that much.

Also I saw a game called "Wacky Wheels" in a local Wunderland Arcade (Yes they spell Wunderland like that, I didnt misspell it) And I've never played the PC version but the arcade version looked alot like MarioKart but with some gay looking duck driving the kart

That was probably it. Were there any hedgehogs on the road? http://www.3drealms.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif And how can the duck have a sexual preference? http://www.3drealms.com/ubb/images/icons/grin.gif

No I don't remember any hedgehogs but I think there was this spiky thing, it could have been a hedgehog as viewed from behind but it just looked like a poof of spikes somehow driving a kart.

Anyways, the duck wasn't "gay" per se, it just looked really goofy, not even sure it was a duck, but probably. Looked all cartoony and stupid.

A Wacky Wheels arcade game? where was this? could you get some pictures of it(some pics of the arcade ROTT would be neat too)? Not sure if that's really WW though, I can't remember a driver that was a hedgehog our looked like one, unless it was the Moose and you thought his antlers(sp?) were spikes.

Joe, was there ever a WW arcade game? I'd like to play it, but it'd probably be too hard to find one(and I don't want to use emulation).

In Grosse Point Blanke a kid was playing Doom II on an arcade console...

...and in one of my later movies, ROTT's sure to make a cameo appearance

You know guys, you can fairly easily and really cheaply make your own system to do this. I was reading about it I guess a year ago. YOu build the arcade box (theres tons of websites on how to do it on the net), or buy an original box (sometimes you ncan find them at the dump!) and then shove a monitor behind the glass, put the machine, and the keyboards under it in ther box, install the joy stivks, and your done.

All you need (to do older games, commander keen say) is the box, a 486 (you can bget these for 50$, or for free), and the special joysticks. You can order these joy sticks which are those jsut like the ones at the arcades (cute little red ball to grip onto!)

YOu can also run emulation on it and have lots of older games like frogger , or galaxian!

I was thinking of doing ti a long time ago, ahh well...maybe I will someday!
