My CE should look like this:

A metal box in black and yellow color setup. Should look like a bit grunched like an old relic. An engraved radiation Symbole also a bit damaged or broken. The inner box is clothed with stars and stripes. In it is an small metal case with a black print of the actual DNF logo (Game Box) in it are 5 DVDs containing all the Lame Versions of DNF Q2, UT1 so on... and finally the GAME. As i wish, there would be also a T-shirt with following print. (Front: I believed in it! 04-27-1997 - XX-XX-XXXX Back: Always bet on Duke). Last but not at last there should be a USB-Stick in an specific DNF design to save ur CFGs on it or give u ACC to sheduled Content of DNF.

First off let me say i'm new to this fourum (but not fourums generaly) and have been playing and loving 3d realms games since i faught the dopefish and duke 3d would only work *VERY* slowly on my PC becuse it wasnt powerfull enough (but played it do death anyway) when i was but a sprite myself through the max payne games and even stayed up till 4am with bloodshot and aching eyes to get the Prey demo from gamespot as soon as i could, after having oggled it since the news of its return (astounding btw, I think my jaw spent more time open than closed. oh, and dont fear the reaper ;) )

I had a thaught, weather its been coverd before or not i dont know simply because i'm new to the actual fourums (though i intend to hang around now i'm finally here ;) ) and its not in the READ FIRST sticky. Actualy once i had finaly joined and logged on i found somone had Stolen my thunder (http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showpost.php?p=338615&postcount=29) but i thaught i'd go into detail, so..

To the point! :
I listend to the PCG podcast mentioning duke forever, i knew there had been alot of engine changes but i assumed that the games simply wasnt finished and the change would be a straight conversion from one to the next, with extra effects and what have you. but that podcast would imply that there are several mostly unieque almost finished duke forever versions there only fatal fault being behind the techy times. having given it afterthaught it would make sence that the new technoligy would mean a world of new possibilities, but thats not to say the others wouldnt be fun!

So! would you like to see the 'outdated' versions released with (or after) duke forever? the obvious way would be some kind of super MEGA giga HYPER collecters edition, 'The History of Forever' if you will. You could even relese them seperate from Duke forever, for older systems.. but i'm letting my imagination get away from me.. the point is i still hold the old E3 DNF trailer
to heart. it held some truly impresive moments even today and it hurts to thing they might never make it to my monitor.

I'm all a-go-go for DNF, it'd just be amazing to be supplied with the 'lost' content.

Welcome to the forums LeX :)

I very much doubt that the previous version were "near complete." They had a lot of stuff done, but I wouldn't say near complete. and with each change they lost most of what they had done. (save for some code, right?)

They have also stated a thousand times (you can do a search to see. :) ) They won't release older versions of the game. Just not gonna happen. Though there have been occasions of release of MEDIA from those games (some images to show the evolution of the game if I remember correctly someone had mentioned something similar to that.) Im pretty sure I remember something about the Q2 engine version not even functioning anymore. I could be WRONG in that though.

just seems a shame, i'm not talking about them as full games.. a level here a cut-sciene there. a bit like lameduke version of duke 3d just as bonus stuff for us determined fans. not to mension optopmisation wouldnt be an issue with older engines on todays systems. i know they lost alot in each change, thats what i'm talking about puting on a seperate disk, or even 'own risk' unsuported download after DNF relese. as i said, alot like lameduke, only with the 'lost' content. each item/section of game in its native respective engines. 'As is' with little to no work on 3DR's part. Pweeeeese? :p

Nah, they've said no to a LAMEDNF before. They just aren't gonna do it for us. I know i'd love to see DNF 2001 and DNF 98 (love quake 2 engine, its a great piece of technoligy, even with tons of engine upgrades it still runs like a dream.). They just have their reasons not to and they are sticking with their guns. Which they have their full right to do. I sure am with ya though LeX, it'd be great to see oldschool DNF first hand. But tis only a fanboyish wetdream at best. :D

That would however only be possible, with some of the few levels there are remaining of the old builds, and the ones that got "remade" for the current version...

They have to look at least a little identical...

:) Well the water stuff seemed reletively unchanged between DNF98 and DNF01.

The vehicle dropping the jetskis changed I believe, and a few other things. But over all it was basically the same thing, at least thats what the screenshots kinda give me the impression. im only assuming that it was a part of the early bit of the game since its kinda prominent in both versions (it seems to me to be that is.)

I will be the happiest gamer if when you finish DNF, you got some nice new menus that let you use cheats and other stuff. And maybe it would unlock strippers pigcops once you finish the game. When i finished HL2 i felt like "that's it?" There was nothing unlocked or something as a little surprise, and i felt like it was just another game i finished.

Like oni also, you finish the game, you get your final animated movie that close the game, and the game would simply quit. That is cheap i'd say.

But the best goes to Rome Total War, once you finish the game, you just have a message saying "You have accomplished your mission! Do you want to stop it now? Or continue screwing other factions?"

And that after 50 hours of gaming.

well, evrything already has been said on this forum, it´s quite hard to think of a thread that wasn´t there already and because we don´t know how much of DNF is done or not done, we can only guess how long it´ll be till release and thinking about that always gives me depressions. :wid: :(

But that aside - if the old Duke games were included, or some cool stuff like figurines or something...that'd be cool - but honestly, I don't really think/dream/whatever about a CE, I just want the damn game to be finished - although I must admit I'll most definetely catch me buying a DNF CE without even knowing what the bonus stuff is, you know.

The guys at 3DR take their time with DNF to make it the game they want it to be, and when they accomplished THAT, I guess making up some nice stuff to put in a CE tin box (or whatever the packaging might be) should be a push-over.

I think it would be interesting if the had an archive of the previous Forever games, whatever their state in the box so we could appreciate the hard work and see the pain of 'starting over'... I think it would add to the whole experience, plus add a few more hours of gameplay.

I was looking at the old movie promo archives and I think it would be fun to try them out, reguardless of the flaws.... Might be fun to see the origional Prey as well... Someone must still have that stuff on paper tape somewhere (yes I'm kidding).

Nope, because people will still be saying that DNF is the next DAIKATANA because they are not able to play the game yet. It's best to wait and release a good demo 1 month before release. :) IMO that is. ;)
