Will Duke Nukem Forever have a serious tone?

As we all know, Duke 3d was known for its homour. With funny references form Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Doom, and more, it was hard to take duke 3d seriously.

Do you think that 3drealms should cool down with the homour in DNF and create a serious, deep, and believable story for DNF? In my opinion, I think DNF can still have some humour, but it shouldnt be so over the top, that it makes the game feel comedic.

Etertainment and everything that implies. I am new as well but been hanging around for about a year if not more. so welcolm form me, new guy too. To answer ur question...yes, Duke should be funny. With all this crap about being attacked in the real world, imo, we need a good laugh. we need a hero who comes from general population. Not some spook on the payrole, but an ordinary BADASS.

Which is what DN3D was. They've got a winning formula, I think they'll stick with it.

Duke should stick with silly & funny humor,. Just loved the DN3D Humor.
Just like Croteam did with Serious Sam Games. never had so mutch
laughs in those games :)

duke is considerd a anti-hero like many old movies he's based on so why not just stick to what they got, but then agian that was popular in the 90's and we all know the 90's are dead. so they should be a little serious, not halo or half life serious.

speacking of half-life anyone know a place i can download the half-life patch.

It could easily have a serious tone with the same laughs that duke nukem 3d had, infact with the ways games have been going, it sort of needs a serious tone. if they could find a way to keep all the funnyness of duke nukem 3d and have a serious story too, it would be the greatest game ever.

no, half-life 2 is the greatest game ever. it has a really great story with rememberable characters. they should make a movie of half-life 2's chapter "ravenholm" (my favorite chapter).

It should have the humour and the laughs, so it makes us remember why we love playing as the Duke. But it should also have some parts which are serious in tone, as it will help it to feel as though you are really drwan into an epic plot. That way most gamers will be satisfied imo. :)

Exactly. I love it when the player is drawn into a huge epic plot, in which he feels for the people he's trying to protect in the game.
At the end of the day, Duke Nukem is a savior that is commited in saving the world from an alien invation. This should be taken seriously, with a pinch of humour every here and there.

Overall it should be a "dark" game (not Doom 3 dark though) in terms of the atmosphere...but mixed with tons of background jokes :cool:

dark comedy is good...but turning duke into a 'POSTAL 2' game...were EVERYTHING in the game was funny and over the top...not good for duke:cool:

Duke should be stuck on a space cruiser with babes in orbit after takeing out the aliens, kinda ripping off the end of the bond films where he is alone with a babe and q tries to contact him.

the last rocky movie would of been better if they took the dramitic end, where rocky dies. that would of made the movie better.

at the end of dnf duke should die or something tragic happens that changes duke from a smart ass hotshot hollywood punk, to a dark sinister man who is now hell bent on destroying the aliens. like what happen to the character at the end of diablo, where he became diablo's anchor to the world. and inevitably his soul was corrupted and became diablo.

but duke doesnt die like that, but now the story of duke is gothic and dark (like max-payne).

or better yet the world is in complete chaos and is empty and on that planet is a new hell for anyone who survived. survivors fight everyday from the monsters (not aliens, monsters are always cooler).

Jeeze... Duke is supposed to a be a raw and gritty spoof of action movies. Nothing more nothing less. Thats a big order if you think about it anyway, cause it involves being truly funny and entertaining. I hope to the All Mighty that Duke stays that course. I mean obviously hes gonna have some slightly more serious tones to him. But its not gonna be over bearing. This is DUKE NUKEM we're talking about after all. :D

I've always considered Duke games to be the type of games you play "inbetween" stuff. However because it's such a 'light' type of game it's pretty fun and I usually end up playing them the whole time anyways ;)

Anyhoo what I'm saying is - Don't make the game go too deep in story and stuff like that.

The idea of Duke Nukem dieing is certainly interesting and climactic, but it would leave very little room for a sequel though.

I want DNF to be like the greatest ride you've been on, with all the ups and downs of fun and serious tones, so that by the end you feel as though you have been through the most incredible journey. By the end it should be as if you had achieved something of value, and that it was the most enjoyable gaming experience ever. It has to have that right `feeling' imo. :cool:
