Kicked to main menu when loading levels

Hi,

I had the demo installed. Finished it. Installed the full game. Uninstalled the demo. Now whenever the game loads the next part it kicks me back to main menu! I would just load the save before that and somehow it would load until I got to the part where the demo ends and it just kicks me to the main menu.. in the console it says something about "wrong number of dots" in a file..

HELP?

I too was getting the same result when I tried to load a game. I also had the demo installed but I noticed that the bug also applies to save points that were made in the retail version. The demo ran flawlessly but I have been having all kinds of crashes on the retail version. :confused:

Did you uninstall the demo before or after installing the game? Or did you uninstall it at all?

I had problems getting kicked to the Main Menu at other loading points in the game too, but the one where the demo ended is unpassable.. with the other ones I could always trick it somehow.. quick save right before the loading etc.

Later today I will try uninstalling & deleting the game folders (there is some in My Documents too I believe) and reinstalling..

I had already uninstalled the demo prior to installing the retail version but the save points from the demo still showed up. I get kicked to the main menu whether I try to load a save point from the demo or from the retail version (I started from the beginning after installing)

OK, I figured it out - after installing the game, uninstalling the demo > get kicks to main menu when loading levels

So I:

Uninstalled game, went to My Documents\My Games and renamed Prey folder to OLD. Reinstalled game, got my latest save file from the OLD folder (=3 different files with the same name), created new My Doc\My Games\Prey\base\savegames folder and pasted them there> started the game, created new profile> it LOADS WITHOUT KICKING ME TO MAIN MENU!

yay!


..once again I post a question just to answer it myself.. damn, I'm good!

btw. the game is fun ;)

I had the same problem,found out I was running out of HD space,free'd up HD space and all is now well. :)

Glad you got it to work.. even tho it's kinda strange, because it was deffinately not space related for me.. (the install HDD has 50GB free and the My Doc HDD has about 10GB). Anything else you did different? Did you have the demo installed at some point?

I'm having this same problem in single player, except I preloaded the game from Triton and this problem occured when I try to map into "The Complex". I had the demo installed before but uninstalled it before I even bothered to purchase Prey through Triton. If I figure out how to reinstall Prey on Triton I'll try that and see what happens. My guess is it's some bug in the game itself since I don't you guys all used Triton to buy the game.

Until then, I guess I'll go back to playing Guild Wars or something. :]

I did the patch but the one you supplied didn't work CosmicD. Interestingly, I accidentally hit Paste and I got this error message from my clipboard:

file E:\Games\TritonPC\Prey Preload\base\pak000.pk4/maps/game/harvesterb.cm, line 642: expected ')' but found '248'

It now loads a little bit but it's only like... 10%. :]

well yes, I also had to change my post, it's a bit complicated... it doesnt seem to be a fixed point of the file that is missing, it's different for everyone

the HD with MyDocs had about ~1.9Gb free,but was running out fast.I did not have the demo installed at the time.
