View Full Version : Multiprey servers

We're currently only seeing a handful of MultiPrey servers for the retail game. That may just be how many are running (maybe everyone is busy with single player today ;) ) but if we can have people with the retail game to set up test servers so we can make sure the master server is running properly, we'd appreciate it.
If you do set up a test server, or already have one running, please post its name here so we can check for it. If you haven't set up a Prey server before, make sure that your firewall, if any, allows connections to port 27719 (UDP) to the server computer, otherwise it won't be in the server list.
Thanks!

More people should play Prey so the online part of the game will be fun. Also I do not know if you guys know it, but playing online kinda lags, you guys should make a patch to fix that.

I'm waiting for the European release of the game, then I can install them. Unless someone wants to FTP the files ofcourse :P

Bump again.
Also, if there is a reason people aren't putting up servers, post that here too.

I'd say there's 2 big reasons there aren't many servers up yet:
1) need to have CD in the drive
I'm the admin for an ISP. I want to run about 4 prey servers. I don't want to have to buy 4 copies of the game, snail mail them to the data center, wait for a tech to put them in the drives.
2) there is no doco for admins or example server configs
Sure it's just like Q4... but seriously, try and help admins out.

I want to put up a server but I cant do it remotely. I am leasing a dedicated box in Dallas Texas and there are no Dedicated Server files that I can install to run the server. Home dedi's suck, no offense, but I would much rather run it on an optimized game server at a Dallas Datacenter with Premium Fiber Optic bandwidth.
Is there any way I can host my own server this way? Or is it just limited to the In-Game server wizard?

A Linux dedicated server is in development. The Human Head guys can give you a timeframe for that. I know it's a high priority.

Any chance of removing the CD check when the exe is run with +set net_serverdedicated 1 ?
Oh and it also seems that each server needs it's own CD key.... Yuck.

The prey.exe does both client and server.
To start a dedicated server use the command line option: +set net_serverdedicated 1
However, you need a CD in the server's drive. And a CD key.

like someone else posted: I am not shipping my $60 DVD to my hosting company. Standalone server files, por favor;)

Or, as I've asked... they can simply stop doing the CD check if you're running it with the command line option to start a dedicated server...

Fuzz, I don't think that will happen, short term, but it can be looked at, as to a possibility. The real solution is release of the dedicated server.

There are lots of servers last I checked. Only problem is that most of them are empty. :(
I would have loved to run a test server on my home server, but I don't want to keep my DVD in there, since I need it to play. It is a Win2k3 server, so I can't run the Linux server software.

Well, right now (see another post in tech help section) our server shows up as the insert name here. I'm trying to create some interest in the game through our gaming site at www.oldgoatgamers.com - I'm running Prey on it unless we have a BF2 Ladder Match that night...otherwise, it'll be running.
