I'm not sure if an ETA was ever posted on the dual core patch but do you devs have any idea on when it could possibly be released and what sorta improvements there will be? I don't have Quake 4 but i heard it was close to the performance boost for that one. Does anybody know?

Well there will be some boost in performance maybe a few extra FPS..

With Q4 I saw about a 20% increase in performance overall @ 1280x800, at
1680x1050 it was closer 10 to 15%.I hope they release it soon.

The only performance that increases is when you enable cool and quiet in your BIOS. Cool and Quiet is known to slow down the dual core cpu's, a patch was released all over the web that fixes this problem. AMD released a update that was released last month, it does not say if the update gains and performance. Here is what the AMD 64 X2 driver says: Allows the system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination that match the instantaneous user performance need. Download this Setup Installation program (EXE) to automatically update all the files necessary for installation. This package is recommended for users whom desire a graphical user interface for installation. This .EXE driver is a user friendly localized software installation of the driver designed for end-users. This driver supports AMD Athlon 64/FX processors on Windows XP SP2, Windows 2003 SP1 x84 and x64 Editions.
Here is the driver to the AMD Dual Core cpu's http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/amdcpusetup.exe

What if i turned off cool & quiet in the bios. Do i still need to download?

C&Q DOES NOT increase performance at all.It can in fact slow down your pc when used.

Well the link I gave you is a driver for all AMD X2 users to have installed, it fixes bugs that may occur. The driver also automatically adjusts the CPU speed, and voltage to stablize the CPU.

That is what I was trying to tell him, turn it off so your processor does not slow down. Go on google and search AMD 64 X2 hot fix, you should get something that shows a lot of C&Q information with a patch to fix the C&Q problem. If you do not want to go through that then just disable it in BIOS, that is what I did and I never got a problem:).

So all it does is turn off cool & quiet? Why make a patch for that when you can do it through the bios?

I have my x2 3800 oc'd to 2.5Ghz,and with c&q installed/running months ago,it slowed down my cpu bigtime.
edit: brock2621 :Because allot of peeps are not comfortable fooling around in the bios...

hmm... ok. I have a 4400 X2 and it's been doing pretty good. My computer stutters in fear every once in a while but i think that's from the programming than my processor. Thanks Raikoujin :)
BTW: Who's silouette is that?

I recently ordered a new laptop with the Pentium Core Duo processor (T2600 at 2.16GHz/667MHz FSB) which was all that I could choose (Dell laptop, had an EPP with it). Is there a chance that Prey won't run all that well on it, despite the RAM and GPU on it?

No i'd say it will run great. It runs tremendously well on my computer. The only thing not maxed is AA. I have it on 2x instead of 4x and i never have a hitch :) I wouldn't worry about it

I had stutters in FEAR as well at 1680x1050,nudging the res down to 1280x800 fixed that.I am not sure, but I needed an avy and kinda liked
it,reminded me of my outline. :)

So, I guess then this new laptop will have no troubles then with Prey. Awesome, I had doubts about it when others said they had problems before. Hopefully, the game will run flawlessly with the 1GB of RAM and 7900 Go attached to it, too. :D

I tried installed the duel core optimizer from AMD and started getting crashes with memory dumps. Once I removed it , the memory dumps stoped.

Without the amd cpu driver installed we had very low performance from X2 chips so check you have that installed.
