Ok, when I go to creative's site and put in my info, the driver it displays for me as being the most current, is the one I already have (2_07_0004; dated Nov 05 I think it was) for my X-Fi Elite Pro.

Still can't enable anything but default "Surround" sound setting. I've read the threads here about the latest driver (2_09_0001; dated Jul 06), but it only lists the Fat, Xtreme, and Platinum cards. I downloaded it anyways and tried to run it, and it failed "could not detect compatible hardware" blah blah, so that driver is specific to those cards.

Of course I've sent a "ticket" to Creative's support page, and I'm sure they'll just return with the repetitive "update this driver, check this check that".

Anyone else not able to get their Elite Pro to work? If you did get it to work, what did you do?

that should do the trick....oops!!!never mind!!....see if you can extract with a rar application to a folder on your desktop...then go to "device manager" and find your sound device and update driver , maually pointing it to your new folder

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I did however hear back from Creative LOL

"We have no information about a new driver so pelase randomly check our website for releases."

Thanks a shitload Creative!

Just in case anyone else had this same issue, reading through various threads on Creative's support page, the Elite Pro does not currently have an updated patch as it was causing hang ups/lock ups in certain situations. One of their support techs said that they are working on resolving the issue (how often have we heard that LOL).

She also said, the workaround, same as above steps of unrar'ing the exe and selecting the updated driver will work, but might still cause hang ups in certain situations.

EDIT: Whoops, banana beat me to it (I was researching the download for a few minutes)

I have an Elite Pro too. I downloaded a beta driver from Creative. It's gone now, but I think TechSpot (http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/7651/) mirrored the driver. If I enable Game Mode in the Creative Mode Switcher, I can play Prey with OpenAL. Someone needs to point out the differences to me. I would guess that the sound is more directional with OpenAL and that I can hear things from a slightly greater distance than before. But I don't really know, I might just be making guesses as to what OpenAL is solving for me.

Thanks for the link 9Nails, I'll give it a try, but be warned, it most likely will have the lockup issue (again, in very rare instances).

As for OpenAL... I don't know specifics or details, but it's just a much more dynamic and richer audio. Your guess is probably spot on though. Not only better directional/positional audio, but I think OAL and EAX now do the muffled sounds like in shell shock scenarios (BF2 when a tank fires it's cannon next to you, or if something happens behind a wall/closed door).

I know you have elite pro but i decided to get the Fatal1ty FPS edition as i dont record music so i got the one for gaming. Now the new driver fixes issues with prey - no lockups no nothing and OPENAL when game mode is on.

Creative has said they are working on a new driver for the elite so you may have to wait till then. Just letting you know the new driver does work :)
