View Full Version : New GalCiv II mod idea: INTERNET WARS
I'm about to post this over at the GalCiv II forums, but I thought I'd share it with you guys as well. Basically, instead of alien races, you have different Internet groups battling each other out. Here's a list of the factions I just typed up:
Something Awful Goonship (powerful diplomats) [Neutral]
Guild of eBay (excellent traders) [Neutral]
Wikipedians (huge boost to research) [Neutral]
The Blogosphere (giant influence) [Neutral]
Shining Happy People's Democracy of AOL (giant numbers of people) [Evil]
Furries (expansionist, militaristic) [Evil]
eBaum Collective (undecided) [Evil]
Google Federation (manufacturing giant) [Good]
Open Source Republic (moderately strong at all points) [Good]
IRC Empire (isolationist, militaristic) [Good]
Besides the different leaders, there'll be tons of different things (like anomalies, ethical dilemmas, luck events, etc.).
Anyone think I should continue on this mod idea?

If you make this mod well, you would be legendary on the various internets. You should include YTMND though. I have GalCiv 2, so I'd play it :D

eBaum Collective (undecided) [Evil]
That one is actually fairly easy. Large boosts to espionage and a higher chance to steal tech, with heavy penalties on their own ability to research.
Thanks, Aegeri, I totally forgot about espionage.
As for YTMND, I'll replace the Goonship with it, and move the Goonship to where the IRC empire is. Here's the new civ chart, now with weaknesses and explainations for powers:
YTMND Empire (militaristic [Forum Raiding], low defection rate [Closely-knit]/weak diplomacy [Garnered many enemies]) [Neutral]
Guild of eBay (excellent traders [they're eBay ;P]/high defection rate [many eBayers are usually members of more than one community]) [Neutral]
Wikipedians (huge boost to research [ultimate compendium of all knowledge]/weak military [took a hit to integrity because of Jimmy Wales "scandal"]) [Neutral]
The Blogosphere (giant influence [can exert political force easily]/weak research [pundits can't get their heads out of their arses]) [Neutral]
Shining Happy People's Democracy of AOL (giant numbers of people [many people are dumb enough to sign onto AOL], strong manufacturing [Power in numbers]/weak everything else [Duhhrrrr...]) [Evil]
Furries (expansionist, militaristic [tend to push their furry agenda onto others]/slow birth rate [find reproduction awkward due to sexual orientation]) [Evil]
eBaum Collective (ludicrously high espionage [they steal everything]/terrible research [nothing that they do is ever original]) [Evil]
Google Federation (manufacturing giant [They basically own half of the Internet]/very weak espionage [Google was never one to look into other people]) [Good]
Open Source Republic (moderately strong at all points [easily modifiable code]) [Good]
Something Awful Goonship (powerful diplomats [ability to convince people easily]/weak military [they're all dorks]) [Good]

The IRC Empire? Pure evil. Simple as that.
Google Federation? They're pretty much evil too.

Unfortunately, ideas are a dime a dozen.
I'm going to pursue this though, since mods are far easier than whole games. *points towards his unfinished Fire & Ice project*
