I'm thinking about getting BF2 now (finally, since i planed to the day i got the demo). But some things got me thinking if this is sa good idea, so here's a few questions for the guys who play it:
- How's the crowd playing? lot's of CS 11-year-old-style or more gorwn-up?
- Is there a lot of baseraping going on?
- Are there a lot of dumbasses who spam "enemy spottet", shoot their team and camp vehicles?
- Are there any servers where voice communication is used well?
- Are those "booser packs" / addons played a lot? and are they worth getting?
- How's the cheater situation? How many, and how "hard"?
thanks for your time :)

Crowd - depends on the server. Most of the time, it is grown up but you may come across jerks now and again.
Baseraping - depends on the server. On some servers, this is allowed. On others, it is forbidden.
Spamming - not really, but there's a lot of "spotted" messages going around. They paint enemies in the radar map. Very useful.
Voice - yes, most I would think
Booster packs - you will be able to find servers for them. I bought both and enjoy them.
Cheater - honestly, I've never seen any blatant cheaters. I play mostly on ranked servers with punkbuster on.

the serversi visited were all very good and mature, lots of strategics going on (one battle was absolutely amazing in terms of combat, all out war and obvious tactics going on, good comander etc )
havent seen any cheaters yet
dont have booster packs :(
Spamming? not sure what you mean by spamming, but no, no annoying voice messages, or stuff like that.
infact, i should pop in my disk and go at it again :D

Just watch out for team killers. They've ruined most of my games.

I remember asking about it in a thread a while back and a lot of people were saying the patches were just making the game worse. :(

I started having big CTD problems with the 1.3 patch. I have now installed 1.4 beta 2 patch and they I have no CTDs.
I also deleted the cache in my documents\battlefield2
If you want to play with the 1.4 beta 2 patch, do this:
- Delete your previous 1.4 Beta folders
- Follow these steps to back up your 1.3 install
> Go to “C:\Program Files\EA GAMES”
> Right click the “Battlefield 2” folder and choose “Copy”
> Right click anywhere away from this folder and choose “Paste”
> Once the copy has completed, you will have two folders named “Battlefield 2” and “Copy of Battlefield 2”
> Install the patch 1.4 beta, then start the game as normal
When you wish to switch back to the release version of BF2, use the following steps:
- Go to “C:\Program Files\EA GAMES”
- Right click the “Battlefield 2” folder and choose “Rename”
- Rename the folder to something like “Battlefield 2 Beta”
- Right click the “Copy of Battlefield 2” folder
- Rename the folder the “Battlefield 2”
- Start the game as normal.
Please make sure to take the proper steps to safeguard your 1.3 BF2 install and join us in making this the best patch possible.
-The Battlefield Team.

Really you just have to find a few great servers and you'll be set. Look for servers with "Squad only" or something like that in the name and you'll have a great time. These servers usually have auto-kick features that force people to join squads. When people are in squads they most always use their teammates to their advantage, and the game is fun and exciting.
Oh, I hope you have lots of RAM or the game will drive you downright insane.

I have 2 gig, yet the game still drives me insane allready. Clicking the instant-play button take literally up to 5 minutes to start a game. Play now my ass .....
Btw does EA and Dice splashscreens are horribly annoying, is there a way to skip them? I havn't found a hint yet
Just move the video files out of your BF2 directory.
