It's not that big of a deal or anything... I just found this odd. Spoiler follows.
Very shortly after your grandfather is killed at the beginning of the game, you come upon your first wall walking platform. Was I the only one that found it strange that Tommy laughs when he walks on it, not a minute or two after he just watched his grandfather get eviscerated by a big processing machine?

Well... put yourself in Tommy's shoes for real. What would you do when you came across something like that for the first time? It must be marvelous experience, strong enough to block out your other emotions, even if only for a short moment.
Since when does WOOOOAHAAAH sound like HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR?

Load a save near that point and listen to it again. He definately laughs.
yeah...i thought that was kind of annoying to be honest aswell...
kind of killed the mood, actually, there were a few instances that killed the mood of the game, personally i don't think the whole seriousness was consistant enough...but that's just me

Is grandpa getting killed a minor spoiler?
And I don't think he laughs, he just WOOAH's :p
EDIT: Btw, my internet is slow, that's why I'm slow :mryuck:

I dunno, I think it's important to have a bit of humor in a game like this, even with such a serious storyline, just to break the monotony. So I definately enjoyed most of the dark humor in the game. It's just that I thought this one particular example MIGHT have been a little poorly timed.

Laughter = a way of dealing with stress. I see it as a very plausable thing that could happen especially after encountering something as cool as a gravity walk.

Is grandpa getting killed a minor spoiler?
Isn't it? I figure the fact that it happens within like 5 minutes of getting abducted (poor gramps never had a chance) and the fact that it's mentioned in most reviews I've seen makes it pretty minor.

You are not alone, I was thinking that same thing when I first played through it.

omg, there are aliens in this game? You ruined it for me now. :p
it sounded like a semi-laugh to me, but I guess the stress thing could explain it

Here's my minor nitpick: in the Multiprey part there is at least one level were you can jump from one gravity plane to the next without using wallwalks or gravity changers. This makes for great gameplay and I looked forward to seeing something like this in the Singleplayer campaign. To my disappointment it wasn't used at all in Singleplayer.

to me it sounded more like the kind of laugh people start emitting before the people in white coats show up to take them away.
