Project Revolution - StarCraft in 3D

Hey guys,

It may not be StarCraft2, but there is a WarCraft3 mod (Project Revolution) being developed that is bringing StarCraft into the world of 3D. SC should look pretty good using the WC3 engine. So far, Blizzard hasn't squashed this mod and Blizzard is aware of the mod according to the modder's FAQ.

I know this kind of thing has been tried in the past only to get the no-go from Blizzard, but since Blizzard knows about this and it hasn't gotten squashed yet, I think there's hope!

Blizzard is owned by Vivendi Universal, so expect some serious backlash. ;) Its possible that they will allow it (as they did with KQ9) but it might recieve a C&D order.

I already own some Starcraft maps for WC3 with completed models for all the units for all 3 SC races + imported sounds.

Well, even if you don't care for seeing the game in 3D and being able to zoom in and out for more detail, you have to admit that the explosions, cloaking, and other combat/spell effects will look much better with hardware acceleration. Just look at the Terran firebat:

The mod does require versions of Starcraft and Brood Wars to be installed on your system, however. That could be the loophole they need.

Heh... there's story about project revolution in PC Gamer (page 64). I didn't see that coming. The editor of the story seems to feel the same way I do, in that since Blizzard is aware of this project and they haven't smashed it yet, there's a pretty good chance that this project will make it. Blizzard hasn't officially commented on it, but that's better than a cease and desist comment.
