WB animation is remaking the Thundercats as an animated TV series. The animation style is whimsical, Americanized-anime, along the lines of Teen Titans. The setting is modern-day Earth, in a major city (possibly LA) The Thundercats are all teenagers. Their leader is Snarf (!) who is now a mystic with a "third" eye. Each of the Thundercats has a weapon with an "Eye of Thunderra" and transformative powers (not just Lion-O) When they aren't fighting evil, the Thundercats play together as a rock band. That's not a typo, or a joke. They are rockin' cats in their present form. Mum-Ra now has wings.

At some point in my life i am going to die. My soul cast free from its mortal shell shall move on to whatever awaits my. My body shall likely be buried surrounded by friends, family, and all those i loved and held dear.

And on that day the force of my childhood memories shall return to reap a bloody harvets upon those that would concieve of this bullshit. That which remains of the little boy i used to be waking up early to watch thundercats, GI Joe and all the other cartoons i so loved shall descend upon them like a scythe before the wheat. Then as their internal organs begin to rupture, their lungs filling with blood, and they gasp out a gargled "why" from a body that is beyond pain that force shall look down upon their broken shell and answer them with a simple.

"Because you ****ed with Thundercats."

Ahahahaaaaa, bad luck Thundercats! Tom and Jerry couldn't avoid it, nor Scooby Doo, and now YOU shall suffer the humiliation of a KIDZ SERIES! Bwahahaha

Why can't they make an original IP like Codename KIDS? That one worked well with children and adults.

Cuase Codename KIDS Nextdoor was done by Cartoon Network, they're pretty good about coming up with original shows.

The WB on the otherhand just blows.

The reason for the change is that they can't allow them yell 'Thundercats hooooooooe!!!!!' anymore. :p

I never saw Thundercats in any form and even I feel sick at the sheer mental image of the revisions they are going to apply.

This is like when they wanted to reinvent Bugs Bunny etc. as "extreme" Loony Tunes... for the love of God, NO!!!!!! :brickwall:

If you want heroes who are in a rock band and protect their world from evil, just watch Macross 7... as long as you don't mind subtitled anime ;)

I suppose I'll give the series a chance. When X-Men Evolution and the 2003 TMNT series were announced I didn't think they would work for me. Both turned out to be great despite deviating from what fans of their previous incarnations (X-Men TAS and TMNT) were used to.

And there goes yet another chunk of my childhood, being led to the media brothel by an executive pimp..

Those two shows didn't totally change the premise of the originals, though...

@Dave-ros: That's a valid point and I can understand that fans of the original Thundercats are pretty pissed about the change of premise in the new series. I was never a hardcore fan of it myself, although I watched many of the episodes and can see why many people like it. I'm a fanboy, too and have reacted to similar announcements the same way the Thundercats fans do in this thread. However, there's still the possibility that the new series will be good in its own right. Yeah, it will take a show many people have loved in their childhood and change everything but the names of the characters, but it still could turn out great. WB has done some amazing - sometimes even groundbreaking - shows in the past, particularly with their DCAU, so at least I have some faith in their ability to pull this one of the right way, especially if they could get Bruce Timm to produce it.

Unfortunately, Bruce Timm and most of the people in charge of the acclaimed Batman/Superman/JLA have either moved out of WB animation or retired. It seems they are bringing in the Teen Titans team to develop ThunderKittens and we all how that ended up.

Why can't they just leave the good stuff alone...

Conspiracy Theory: This is a bluff. They put this news out, and it virally spreads amongst the generation that grew up with TC. As TC reenters everyone's conciousness again, DVD sales see a 15% spike. The project is quietly cancelled, and the company has reaped free publicity from news media and word of mouth.

Plus, it seems to originated from an anonymous tip to aintitcoolnews, which I wouldn't exactly trust to tell me if Earth still had an atmosphere or not.

And here I thought they couldn't top the Loony Tunes "reimagination". Hilarious.

I never watched it, and I still think this is the stupidest idea I've heard in awhile.
