been here a couple years, i think this is my first topic lol
while watching the loading screens for prey (they remind me of perfect dark zero for some reason), i was thinking about the dukester. What would you guys like to see for loading screens? I think they should have several different loading screens with little humorous tidbits/pictures about/of duke:cool:

The first question is: Will DNF have end-of-level loading screens, or will they be less intrusive freeze-frames a la HL and it's sequel?
If the former, then I like the idea of making loading screens varied and informative. I don't want all of the storyline progression in these screens, but something better than a "loading..." transposed over a blurry screenshot would be nice. Yet, I don't want anything too distracting that affects immersion. I suppose I'd prefer HL's method (with more time in-between loading points, of course).

I prefer levels to that of HL2's method because I can't stand the way you never know just when its going to say 'loading' and its usually too often.
However I remember a 3DR quote saying thats how they were going to do it, not level based. Not sure how true that is for the current build.

MCL needed them to distract you from the awful time you were having playing it.

Yeh, one would be enough at some point in the game. It would get very old very fast having more than one WID joke.
Especially considering we know damn well what WID means and most of us don't find the WID jokes funny anymore because, well, we want to play the game sometime. :p

Do any games exist where you can play a minigame or something while waiting for the game to load?
I mean, a small minigame to keep you amused shouldn't have to much impact on load times. And it might enable you to earn some extra health or ammo.
Just a thought, it probably won't work out very good since every computer has different load times.

Instead of "LOADING", it could just show: "DONīT COMPLAIN. YOUīRE USED TO WAIT FOR IT".
To IHerman, AFAIK, thereīs a PSOne game called Versus the True Fighters that has a sliding puzzle when loading. Donīt bother searching for Versus, though. Itīs mediocre. :)

Yeah, but why have a boring load screen while you could have "Super Turbo Turkey Puncher IV"?

There has to be a loading bar, it's a must. I hate it when i have to wait and i don't know the progress of the load.

It must be a decent loading bar then. not one of those that get stuck 40 pixels before the end and stay there for like a minute before suddently ALL the loading is done. I hate it when they do that. They must make an algorithm that calculates the exact time needed for loaden, taking all the hardware and confirurations into consideration, software installed, running processes, movement of the mouse and network traffic. Then they could give a nice progress bar that smoothly moves to the hundred percent, giving you the possibility to plan possible visits to the toilet or time to get a beer without lossing a single second of useful time.
Anyway, progress bar can be at the bottom of the screen, while on the main screen you can play Pong or something.

I agree and feel the same. A load bar (unless the load times are under 5seconds) are a must.

Definitely a progress bar. And maybe some artwork or some comments from one of the developers about the level you just played, and, of course, before the first level an introduction to the game by George Broussard :D

And on the first loading screen:
"You just had the menu. The menu is the start of the game... " :p

suggestion for a loading screen... like in chronicles of riddick, cube that form the interface comes to be set in place.. but instead of forming the menu or similar they form the screenshot of where the player saved the last time.. so when loading ends, it's already in the game..
