Anyone else listening to this band originally out of Toronto? I missed their debut self-titled album altogether, but have been hearing a few tracks from their follow-up album and liked the sound, so picked up the CD the other day. Great sound, huge energy. Would love to see them live. Anyway, big thumbs up for Billy Talent ll.

I've got both albums, Orochi turned my attention to them a few months ago. I love the style, sound... as you said, pretty much everything is great.

I like how they don't focus on names nor album title. Just simply Billy Talent and Billy Talent 2.

I don't know a thing about the bands I listen to, and I don't care. Its the music that counts, not what the lead man is wearing.

I keep hearing about them, but I've not yet listened.

I haven't been half serious about not giving them a try, but honestly I simply can't stand those feminine haircuts.

Ok, each member of the band has a different haircut, and as everyone else is saying, who cares anyway?

Picked up the first CD today and have been giving it a listen. These guys have a great sound. The music is incredibly tight. I watched the Muchmusic "Intimate and Interactive" concert they did (available on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJQ5uv5tPeo) and they play tight live as well. Kind of a lame audience in that little outdoor concert, but I guess they were playing a lot from their second album which was brand new at the time.

That has gotta take some serious vocal control to scream out some of those lyrics and not wreck your voice.

Bah, I didn't wanted to continue to discuss about that but people just kept on questioning my opinion heh. :) I'll probably give them a try cose I haven't really heard any bad things about that band. Except for their hairstyles :p

Well, I hated Serj's (System of a Down) hair when they did Toxicity. He looked kindof strange to me with such short hair.
But I love that album... I don't like how most bands look. But I don't care, it's the music that matters.

Sortof like here, I don't know what most of you look like... but it's what you say (type) that matters. ;)

i listen to a lot of bands that are really ugly, but ugly people can make great music. :p
as much as good looking people can make horrible music

After a week of listening to both I agree that the first album is better, although I don't know about "way" better. :)

It's more raw, less produced, which is what you want for music of this type. Both of them would be better performed live though. It's all about the energy, and you just can't capture that as well in the multi-track recording used in studio albums.

Regardless, great albums both.

I love the first album, been listening to it all week... Billy Talent II is good. But with the first album the songs just seem to get stuck in my head.

"My head, it hurts, each day it's getting worse..." :p Love that song.

Ya, I think Standing in the Rain is my fav tune of that CD as well, but the whole disc is very good.

Just picked up 4 tickets to see these guys here in Ottawa on Feb 3. Makes me wish for the old days of standing general admission in a way. I've got 8th row floor seats, but this seems like a stand up and scream kind of concert. Ahh well, should be fun regardless.

Don't know where you're going to see them dude (Montreal?) but the advanced ticket sales started Wednesday. Basically, you needed to go to a local radio station's website (in Ottawa it was 106.9 The Bear) and get the "secret password" and that allows you to buy the tickets "early". The station was linked right off the ticketmaster.ca website, so you might want to check that out immediately before all the good seats get snatched up.

They're only $40 (plus 1 billion dollars in service charges and taxes) each, which is refreshing in an age when all bands are asking for $80+ for their seats.

Yeah, I live in Montreal, they are coming here the 5th. This site here (http://www.admission.com/html/evinfo.htmI?l=FR&EVNT=TA70205&STAGE=1&X=2&f=1&x=2006-10-14%2012:00&mev=1) says that they will start selling tomorrow at 12. I'm going to reserve two tickets in the red section (~50$ with taxes).

I can't wait. \o/

I dunno, I just watched the video for "Red Flag"... and maybe it's the production but the music just lacks energy. It's also semi-generic (or perhaps mostly generic) and not necessarily catchy either, not that music needs to always be catchy, but if you're going to keep it simple you should try to throw in the right hooks.

Definitely modern teenage popular rock.

Scream

Judging by one song is hardly fair, and no music should ever be judged by watching videos, as they skew your perception of the music (videos should be banned from the planet). Anyway, Red Flag ain't their best tune, even on the second album.

You should check out their first CD. It was more raw. Anyway, they're a live band. That's where the true energy is.

You can listen to their whole second CD by going to billytalent.com and clicking on "Watch and Listen".

Good show last night. There were three warm up acts, Moneen, Anti-Flag, and Rise Against, after which Billy Talent hit the stage. I was in general admission, along with my girlfriend and her son and his buddy. The two of them headed straight for the mosh pit, while my woman and I hang back with the few older people who were there. Good energy, although I could have done with one less warm up band. I was getting tired by the time the headliners hit the stage.

Singer Ben Kowalewicz was sick (probably has the same shitty cold that's been plaguing me the past week), so his voice wasn't at it's best. He got some help from the crowd at times, which worked fine, as well as the lead singer of Anti-Flag once. His condition didn't seem to stop him from bouncing like a madman all over the stage, and the show had great energy. The music was tight as well, which has always impressed me with these guys live.

The Leafs were playing the Senators last night, so he also spent a little time making fun of our taste in hockey (Billy Talent is out of Toronto, and it's Ottawa I saw them in), and then gave us a jab when it was announced that the Leafs won in OT.

Anyway, they did basically everything that anyone would care about off the two CDs they've released, and finished with their latest single Red Flag, which was a bit disappointing for me as it isn't my favourite, but it's a good song to get the crowd into, and it worked.

Young crowd at this concert, which I guess shouldn't be surprising. I'd say the average age was 16-18. Anyway, it was a good show. My girlfriend's son and his buddy are both 17 and were totally wiped after spending 3+ hours moshing. Glad that we stayed at the back and watched security wrestling people down who were trying to sneak onto the floor instead of joining them there. ;)

Hope you enjoy it Ivan.

You need to get ready to hop while one of the songs is playing and actually do it just as it ends as they pretty much always drop all the lights in the house for 2 or 3 seconds. I saw several delinquents such as yourself successful using that approach the other night. :)

I traded my tickets to some random guy and actually got legit tickets to go in the pit. I got myself a t-shirt. While Moneen was playing (it ****ing sucked) I drank 2 kinda big cups of yellow juice and it kinda made me really friendly and I was wanted to jump. Anti-Flag was okay I guess, I liked their Circle Paint where everyone was running in a big circle pushing everyone. Rise Against was ****ING AWESOME. Even though I only knew the lyrics to 2 songs, I moshed like a madman. And well Billy Talent was just incredible, everyone was dancing and signing, it was pretty cool. It was worth it! :woot:
