Hi, Folks!
I´ve been around these forums for a pretty long time now but I never actually started posting here. But anyways, I know everything about you Baskinators, biXens, RollingBrasses, Drazulas and however you nick yourselves... images/icons/wink.gif

Well...whatever...today it might be my second or third time posting in these forums. Why...uh...well...let me start a few months ago...

[pleasent narrator voice]
A few months ago a friend of mine approached me and asked if I would make a movie with her. I said "hell, no, go away!" ...For a better understanding you have to know that I am a film maker and for years now I wasn't involved in these "let's-make-a-fun-film-for-our-friends-projects"

But anyways...she somehow convinced me to make a short clip with her. We started planning and decided to make a "Max Payne Homage". It didn't turn out what we intended it to be but considering that we had only three hours for shooting we are quite statisfied.

So what we did is a short action sequence, a shoot-out that has certain "Max Payne" Elements in it. Most of them aren't as obvious as we had wished so we played around with MP in post-production: The muzzle-flashes and a few other things were done with "ParticleFX", we tried to give it a little bit of the MP-style via cutting and almost all of the sounds (except for the music) were taken from MP (hope you Remedy guys won't sue me!).

I`d suggest you check the clips out for yourselves and tell me what you think about it. I made two versions for the different bandwiths of you guys. The fast and the furious go to

http://www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?file=83703

This file is app. 23.5MB

The others should check out
http://www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?file=83704

which is about 10 MB, but believe me: If you have the time and the bandwith you should check out the bigger one (...the small one really sucks! Don't you dare to play it fullscreen! graemlins/dopefish.gif )

You need the latest divx codec to watch the movie with your Media Player.

This clip is our way of saying "Thank you" to Remedy and 3DRealms, who have -in my eyes- produced one hell of a game that's fascinated us from the first moment on...and guess what? I´ve started playing MP a few days ago for the fifth time! images/icons/cool.gif

That's it for now!

lemme know whatcha think!

HenryJonesJr

PSS: Just for the record - I haven't made this film for any comercial purpose and it is not my intention to exploit it comercially in any way. It was a pure private fun thing! Consider it "Fan Art" images/icons/wink.gif

So you made those amazing cut scenes?

I (*cough*) adapted one element you`ve used in MP for the storyboard of my next movie: When Alex dies we see his death from his subjective one and the screen fades to white while the camera is panning around towards the floor. That was -as far as I know- a real innovation (haven't seen anything like that before). So we decided, THAT would be a very cool way to bring a person to death (...only that that the person dying is a bad guy this time images/icons/smile.gif )

Be sure I'll pass your "thanks" on to Vanya, the girl I´ve been shooting with.

Henry, Damn cool.

We'll mention this on our front page. Anytime a fan puts in this amount of time and effort, we want to make sure that it's properly appreciated. I see that Remedy is hooking you up with some free goodies. If you want a copy of Max on either the PS2 or Xbox, let me know and I'll jook you up.

Again, thanks for making me smile. :-)

Did you consider compressing it (eg. divx or mpeg) or is it so long that it is even that big when compressed? ..and yes...uploading it would be another matter graemlins/mryuck.gif

What was your project about? What did you do? And why do you call it an "attempt"? Can you produce some screenshots?

So many questions images/icons/grin.gif

Anyway its about my character killing this guys best friend and he witnesses the murders so he avenges his friends death by fighting me. It's a pretty poor story images/icons/smile.gif

It was filmed on a Sony video cam and uploaded onto a G4 Mac and put together using Premiere, 3D Max and Photoshop.

Let me first say that I very much enjoyed your cool video. I therefore made a homage to the homage. images/icons/smile.gif

Download it from the link below and tell me what you think:

HEY, DEADALUS!

I've downloaded that Bink stuff an I'm playing around with it a little bit now...never had the Idea of using it before as it is (as far as I know) no standard video tool...well okay...normally I don't do web video stuff so I'm a little off-shore with that images/icons/wink.gif

What I just realized (...I've watched your loop for another 3 minutes in a row images/icons/grin.gif ): In this clip there are actually two of the four montages I was pretty proud of when I made'em:

-that bullet hitting the wall behind me (which of course is fake and done with Remedy's amazing ParticleFX)

-that muzzle flashes out of my way-tooo-big gun. It took me about four or five hours to render and place them correctly in the clip (...yeah, again ParticleFX was the source)

-

@ALL

For those who are interested...
If you are interested in a few peeks into the original takes I could mesh them together to a short "making of" feature and put them online. As it would take me some time to do that I'd like to know if there is any "public interest?" images/icons/confused.gif

Anyways, I am amazed and happy that you poeple out there like our work images/icons/grin.gif

Thanks to all the (at this time) 828 poeple who have downloaded our clip, thanks to all the people who have mailed me! We feel so excited that the work we put in our clip is appreciated! I try to answer the mails a.s.a.p. but please don't be sore if it takes a day or two (...from time to time I have to sleep, ya know)

This kind of an audience really *forces* a filmmaker to make more movies like that images/icons/smile.gif

and..yes...guess what will be happening a few weeks after DNF is released? images/icons/wink.gif

The tools are quite powerful. You can convert a lot of video formats to standard Bink (*.bik) or Smacker (*.smk) format or extract parts of a video like frames and sound.
