Another free game which i just downloaded tonight. It's very simple is a proof of concept development. While a lot of people might not find it fun there is a simplistic side to it that i enjoy. It reminds me of UFO: Enemy Unknown but with zombies... and poor graphics :)

You can download it from the blog of the professor:

Hey this is pretty good. :) I could really see this doing well if it were a polished commercial game. Its simple, yet kind of addictive in its own way.

Is it fun?

It's not bad. I like this genre though so i'm biased. It's not fun in the sense that you get immediate gratification or anything (o_O) but you get a sense of acheivement by doing subsequent and harder scenarios.

You made me go find X-Com: Apocalypse again.

I've heard X-com talked about on other websites before, the gameplay is similar to this?

Turn based combat. The sequel I metioned also gives you the choice of real time combat.

Oh i think i have X-com apocalypse or is that the sequel. It's called UFO: Enemy Unknown. Perhaps it was released under a different name here? I have to use a cpu declocker to run it properly though. I use a programme called Turbo, though i can't find it on the internet anymore so if anyone needs it just give me a shout and i'll mail it.

The thing i liked about it mostly was that you could set overwatch on areas and if the enemy moved then your guy would fire. With the UFO sequels: Aftermath and Aftershock (a new one coming out soon i think) you have complete real-time control. However you are able to pause the game. Imagine a tech-based baldur's gate - but only the fighting parts.

I can't get past hourglass.

I haven't done them in order. I did 1-9 then 13,14,18 and 19. You should have unlocked quite a few different ones.

I haven't worked out a good way to deal with those stupid reapers. Any ideas?

I could hold a lot by spawning militia. This is impossible, because in the middle of hourglass map you can only put 3 units, while the enemy put 3 units that hold 3 hp each. So you need 2 to 3 times more units than the enemy. But the tight space in the middle make useless the number of unit you can have.

Yeah, but on some of the maps you get like 6 or 7 of them attacking at once and your resources don't recharge that fast :( especially when it takes two attacks to kill them.

I'd really prefer the slayers to be able to attack twice if they don't move, IMO that would balance the game out a bit.

Yes, or give them 2 hp instead of one.
