Can someone recommend a fun multiplayer game for 2 - 3 players over LAN? Games like Battlefield tend to get a little boring with a small number of players. :dopefish:

Just about any console multiplayer game...

Duke Nukem 3D is awesome on multiplayer :dopefish:

But if you don't like playing that, the best I could recommend would be Half-Life 2, prefferably Garry's Mod :)

Boppin is fun (and free!) for two players. Be sure to set up DOSBox.
One Must Fall 2097 is another great multiplayer game. Same as above.

Also hotseat

What I like(d) to play over LAN:

UT2004 (Instagib ftw!)
Duke3D (co-op is great in 2-3)
Q3A
Vietcong
Age of Empires II
Transport Tycoon Deluxe :)

StarCraft:Brood War is really fun in free-for-all mode, as long as someone doesn't act like a bitch and turtle.

Dosbox might be a pain over lan, especially if the PCs aren't up to speed. Doesn't the windows release of Boppin work?

I forgot to mention that you should do those in hotseat.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King is a pretty fun beat-em up with co-op. The wars can get pretty hectic too.

Worms Armageddon is perfect. Surprised no one mentioned it.

Plasma Pong too. Its additcive in SP, I imagine moreso in multiplayer.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Battle Nexus is actually a damn fun game, and there is a PC version. Its not lan enabled though, you have to just play on the same PC. I guess you can blame that on being a port.

Little Fighters 2 or Soldat would get my vote. :)

Ragdoll Kung Fu is cool but I don't believe there's lan support. :S

Worms Armageddon as avatar said, too.

My reccomendations are all co-op rather than head to head.

AvP 1 or 2 co-op missions (or even 2 marines versus 1 predator or alien in AvP2)

Dawn of War: Co-op skirmish against multiple PC opponents - fun and rewarding.

Vietcong co-op against the vietcong, hold position etc.

I beg to differ, Serious Sam 2 is much more fun to play in Co-op. More varied locations and enemies, as well as guns.

ok, either one. if you can get past the strange bugs in 2. But SE is great for coop also, and IMO the waves of enemies are better. :)

One of the Doom 3 co-op mods could be fun.

1. Scorched 3d - www.scorched3d.co.uk (can be played over internet or on one computer)
2. UT2004 - Plenty of mutators to make it fun for a long long time
