I just read this article on a Danish news site. It says that GB announces that DNF is currently in the retaining and polishing face. Sounds to good to be true for me, but if any of you read Danish read this!

He's talking about the engine, not the game.

I would like to use this opportunity to ask a question I asked in the last shacknews-thread, but it hasn't been answered because the thread got locked (or maybe nobody didn't want to answer it anyways) but I'll give it a try, the last time:
Is there any reliable timespan you can tell a company needs to hype a game like this?
Honestly I just want to figure out after what date you can tell by still missing media, that it is not gonna be out before X-Mas.

From what I remember, they said they would start talking about the game three to six months before release.
Kristian or Firefly could confirm this.

Your question wasnt answered because you basically ask for the release date...

I'm not!
I'm just asking for the time a company generally needs to hype a FPS! That's all.
@Assault: Thanks.

6 to 12 months.
"I simply mean that we're not going to start showing the game off and promoting it until we're farther along, and closer to release. And we will try not to do so over a year before release. We're going to try and stay quiet so that when you start seeing things again, you won't have to wait 2 years to play the game. The exact plans and timing will be determined as we go, but that's the general plan. "
"You can always judge when a game will be release, especially in the absense of a date. Games don't just appear out of nowhere, at least not semi-major, anticipated ones. I think it's safe to say you won't see Half Life 2 before mid next year, simply based on the fact that there are no ads, no in store boxes etc, or other typical pre-launch things you see. Like you are starting to see with Doom 3. Generally you really know when a game will be out within about 6 months of release, because it's almost impossible to not know it's coming, as long as the publisher does their job and advertises and promotes properly.
So what I'm saying is that it should not surprise anyone if we don't release in the next couple of months. There are no signs that we will do so. I don't think R* did a very good job promoting Max 2. I think you need about 6 months of varying pr (shots, videos, ads, previews, interviews) all spaced out to build up to release. I used to love LucasArts in the early-mid 90's. The wouldn't announce a game was in production until they unveiled it, then it was out in 6 months and you were playing it. So you got excited that it was being made to begin with, you saw it, and you had a pretty short wait." (January, 2004)
"Our policy is simple. We really don't want to show or talk about the game until we are sure it's going to be done "soon" (in relative terms) after that. Soon could mean 6 months to a year, we haven't decided yet." (Febuary, 2005)
"[Have you decided on a "hype" timetable for DNF? 6 months? 1 year?]
No. We really make this up as we go along and we don't plan it. We'll simply wake up one day and realize it's time to show it." (September, 2005)
"Let's not officially hold to the 6 month thing, ok? Just to manage expectations. We certainly don't want to show the game too early, but we also want there to be more than enough build up time, and we don't want to surprise people.
We don't have any official stance on how long is the right length, but it's not hard coded to six months, either." (January, 2006)

Would have never thought that it takes so long. I thought about 2 to 4 months. :insomnia:

No, and in fact 6 months is considered to be a very short hype period. Games generally receive at least a year of hype.

I understand what you mean, but admit it - if you know that date, then you know that DNF won't be out by let's say Xmas...
Maybe Joe could settle this ;)
