Anyone got any info on when that huge Unreal bundle is going to be released? It has Unreal, Na Pali, Unreal 2, UT, and UT2k4 in it as I remember. I can't find any links about it and the announcement article has been swallowed by time. :/

getting ut2k3 if you already own ut2k4 is a waste of money since ut2k4 basically is ut2k3 but with tons of added stuff.

I have a set that has unreal,the expansion and UT.

IMO,the expansion wasnt that good and unreal 2 sucked.
Just get UT2004.

Well, UT used a slightly updated version of Unreal's engine. Had some cool weapons and such. UT2K3 was on the UE2, looked completely different, felt different. Had new gameplay modes, weapons, character's levels.
UT2K3 was a brand new game. In a way it feels more Quake like gameplay feel wise.
UT2K4, has alll the maps, characters, weapons. from 2K3 plus more. So if you get 2K4 you don't need 2K3. But UT is a must.

For the record... I have all the Unreal games. :p

If you mean THIS (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/unreal/news.html?sid=6152790) then I must warn you that Midway's PC titles are loaded with Starforce 3. I suggest you get all previous games from the bargain bins instead of risking SF3 infections.

I found that out the hard way...

I have UT2K3 and UT2K4 as well, while I was upset that it was basically the same game twice... I didn't buy either at release so I got them both at bargin bin price.
But the intro to UT2K3 was cooler than 2K4's IMO. Very cool intro.

I only have UT2k4 (but I have played the others) and I would say, if you have UT2k3, sell it and get 2004 instead. It has new gameplay options which (imo) justifies a buy.. (does that sentence make any sense?). With the money you got from 2003 you could get 2004! Wootz!

I'm kinda looking forward to that new Conquest (or whatever) mode in UT2k7. If the maps are huge and interesting (unlike the Onslaught ones which weren't all too worthwhile at all apart from being big) it might be cool :)

I have unreal (3dfx ver, came with voodoo3), unreal (retail), UT, UT2k3, UT2k4, and Totaly Unreal (which has unreal gold (unreal and return to na-pali) and UT GOTY). Fav map of all time is a CTF in UT called Hall of Giants. If I didn't allready own all of these, I'd buy the new anthology.

Only one close that I'm aware of is Classic UT. However, it only changes the weapon fire modes, damage & rates of fire to that of UT99, not the weapon models themselves.

Exactly, the only people who will buy this are gamers who like to buy great games and add it to their collection. Why make their life miserable with StarForce infection :( ?

I already have Unreal Gold, UT GOTY , Unreal II The Awakening and UT2004 ECE. I would still like to buy the Anthology pack for total collection only if they dont infect the release with StarForce infection.

Dude, return to Na Pali blows unreal 2 away, tis well worth the purchase. It may be the same graphics as the original unreal, but it completes the story (you aren't stuck floating in orbit in an escape pod anymore).

Damien_Azreal
09-16-2006, 05:27 PM
Well, I thought/think that Unreal blows. :p I can't stand the original Unreal. It's boring, way to long, weapons and enemies are dull and unsatisfying.

And other than the pretty graphics (which aren't that pretty anymore) the game doesn't really have anything going for it.

I actualy enjoyed Unreal 2 much more than Unreal. True the story is very b-level, and it doesn't really add any new ides to the gameplay or shooter genre. But it is a fun, mindless little romp. And sometiems that's more than enough.

Unreal = superb.

Return to Na Pali = superb, too.

UT = superb.

Unreal 2 = ...ummm, haven't tried it, but the fact that it had no more Nali and wasn't set on Na Pali anymore kinda disappointed me...

UT2k4 = superb graphics, lousy at everything else. They just threw away too much of the old Unreal/UT content. Nearly all the old bots of UT are gone, and the new ones just aren't as funny as UT's anymore. Their voices suck as well, and so does the music (no longer by Alex Brandon).

UT2k7 = ...I wonder...

Babe
09-17-2006, 11:46 PM
Unreal Gold = Superb all right
Unreal Tournament Game Of the Year Edition = Superb
Unreal II The Awakening = Completely lame, just a superb eye candy
Unreal Tournament 2004 Editor's Choice Edition = Superb, but gameplay wise doesnt have the same feeling as original Tournament, rather you have a 'floaty' experience. However superior in graphics.

Unreal Tournament (the original) is, IMO, still the most fun multiplayer FPS ever made.

CTF has never been as fun as in ´99 though.

To me nothing satisifies like the original UT. The weaoons just feel better and so does the gameplay. They never got the sniper rilfe right again, even when they supposedly added it back in it wasn't the same.

All I really want is original UT with modern graphics, I dont even care about all of the new stuff. For whatever reason they refuse to do that, even as a mutator or option.

Here is what an user who purchased the Unreal Anthology bundle says about it in the UT forums

Just got UA. Has a music CD.

and more

copy protection is just CD-Key like other games, thats it, no CD required in the player. technically everything is patched to the latest at release.
Its on ONE DVD with the music CD.
I have never known EPIC to use any rediculous copy protection schemes that raise the ire of the PC users or try to interfect the user PC.

and more

The Installer? just pop the CD in and it goes...
It has a skaarj face and scenes from the various games changing while installing, and unreal music going.

for the game launcher, it shows the 4 games click on the game to launch it.

If you have trouble using the CD game installer, just look for the setup proggie
on the CD. All games or in CAB files so there is only one setup proggie.
Apparently the installer and game launcher need WinXP, but the games do not. When your done installing, just nab the program file for each game and make a shortcut

and still more

not exactly new content, I poked around UGold, the Legend and InfoGrames logos are removed from the intro and DE inserted or retained.
U2 is the same but no XMP.
UT99 is the same but they used version 436 not 432 as the original GOTY version is, so no patching needed there.
I would assume UT2k4 is patched to the latest version.

So it seems that the game only has CD checks for legit online play, which is 100 % fair enough and NO copy protections, not even DVD checks. And definitely NO Starforce infection. YEY.

Now only to wait till 23rd of this month when it will be available here in Australia :).

No. UT2k7 is dropping most of the multiplayer gameplay modes. No assault, domination, or bombing run.

UT2k3/4 was significantly different from UT99 in both play style and look. So there's still merit to play UT99 still because it's unique enough. There is absolutely no reason to play UT2k3 over UT2k4 because UT2k4 is UT2k3 except better.

I just received Unreal Anthology and it indeed comes with a bonus Music cd with the following tracks;

Unreal;
1. Flightcastle (0:51)
2. Shared dig (2:34)
3. Dusk horizon (2:31)
4. Bluff Eversmoking (3:57)
5. Isotoxin (4:09)
6. Unreal Temple (Crypt) (4:12)

Unreal: Return to Na Pali;
1. Black Wind (3:10)

Unreal Tournament;
1. Unreal Tournament menu (2:00)
2. Foregone destruction (4:11)
3. Go down (3:00)
4. Botpack nine (4:49)
5. Mechanism eight (6:12)
6. Skyward fire (4:56)
7. Razorback (4:49)
8. The course (4:28)

Unreal Tournament 2004;
1. Unreal Tournament Menu Redux (4:14)
2. Ghost of Anubis (2:01)
3. Infernal Realm (1:59)
4. Assault (1:59)
5. Arena (0:53)
6. From below (1:59)
7. Sniper time (2:00)
8. Onslaught one (3:48)

I'll install a game and check whether or not StarForce is installed or not. I'm guessing not.

Edit;
I just installed everything from the disc except UT2004 (already installed) and there's no StarForce present on my system. I guess it's safe.

The high-res textures are on the second CD. If you use the OldSkool mod, you can play the original Unreal game in UT using the high-res textures. (It's also a lot of fun to use the Translocator, Pulse Rifle, etc in Unreal.) :)

The Original Unreal had S3TC support. There's an old Unreal demo level called 'Egypt' that has some super-hi-res S3TC textures in it. The level design was really crappy, it was just meant to show off the textures.

For a complete bundle, I would love to see the shareware version of Unreal but a lot of folks might have problems getting it to work on todays machines.

I was wondering how Midway in Heaven's name managed to cram all of those games onto just one DVD but now I'm getting an idea how since they not only left out all custom material made by gamers that was present in the original release of UT G.O.T.Y. and UT2k4 Editor's Choice Edition but also they left out the S3TC textures of UT. :doh: Like a double layered DVD or two DVD's is a problem, for example, Unreal Tournament 2004 Editor's Choice Edition was released on 7 or 9 cd's if I recall it correctly.

Babe

Picked up my copy of Unreal Anthology from a EB Games store yesterday here in Australia :). It comes with a DVD of size approximately 6.5 GB size and a audio CD with 23 music titles in it. No plastic DVD case is included inside the packet, but just two paper sleves, one for the DVD and the CD each. Sadly my most favourite audio track from the original Unreal when the Skaarj makes its first appearance is not there. That music always got me dancing in my chair while playing that game. Sadly that music is not there in the music CD. The package also comes with a little paper poster for Unreal Tournament 2007 inside the package.

The real awsome thing is, I can now confirm since I have my own copy now, unlike Half Life Anthology, Unreal Anthology game doesnt have the STEAM infection. Also it doesn't have the much feared StarForce protection. Infact, the DVD doesnt have any type of copy protection or CD checks. So just install the games you want from the DVD with the provided serial key and then lock the DVD in your gaming cupboard :love: . You dont need the DVD to start and play the game. So that's just AWSOME.

Also the package automatically installs the latest Editors Choice Mega bonus pack content for UT2004. So in a sense the package installs the most updated package for UT2004, even later then the solo "Unreal Tournament 2004 Editor's Choice Edition". In other words, the "Editors Choice Mega bonus pack content " that was released after the Editor's Choice Edition has been release, also gets automatically installed by this package.

For a 49.95 AU Dollars , you cant find a better package.

Foxy
11-25-2006, 04:56 AM
Yeah. ++ for not needing the DVD in the drive. Clearly *someone* understands that it's pointless to wrap a re-release game in copy-protection.

What is this S3TC textures ? Is it some type of high resolution textures or what ? The DVD is indeed a dual layer DVD I gues since its contents are about 6.05 GB approx .

NutWrench
11-30-2006, 06:53 PM
What is this S3TC textures ? Is it some type of high resolution textures or what ?

Yes. It's a form of texture compression developed by S3 Graphics Ltd, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S3_Graphics) which later became incorporated into DirectX 6.0. Here are some screenshots I made from a demo level called Egypt that was released in late 1998. There were only around 5-6 super high res textures in this level and they totalled around 30 megs, even with S3TC compression.

Those textures remind me of the quality in Serious Sam.
