My friend recently bought a 360 controller to use on his pc. The clerk assured him it would work, and all he had to do was find the drivers on Microsoft's site. He installed them, and it didn't work. I wasn't there when he did it, so I don't know the specifics. I just want to know if there are some drivers that WORK, cause he needs this to work badly. Thanks! :)

Get XPadder. It's a very big help. :)

Is it wireless?

I can confirm the wired 360 controller does work on xp,with a driver download from microsoft.(with limited funtionality):)

Yeah, IIRC MS said they were going to start supporting the Wireless ones but I don't know if they'll ever actually do that...or if they actually said that at all. :p

I use the 360 Wired as my main form of input, as in, more often than the mouse. (I have software to controll the cursor)

Games rule with this thing.

You want to look for the XBCD drivers as they let you do all kinds of cool stuff, like make the shoulder buttons act as on/off instead of ramping.

The windows version of the wireless one is out this christmas.

Make shure your friend has the newest directx too since the new version of Xpadder needs it to function properly..

EDIT:
Link to directx download (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en)

And yeah i highly recommend Xpadder to it works like a charm on my pc..

MAME and XPadder is a winning combination. Same with an SNES emulator, because the layout is quite similar to the SNES controller (shoulder buttons help a lot).
