What are your recommendations? I like to listen to them just in general or when mapping. So far I listen to choice selections from:
- Quake 1
- Call of Cthulhu
- Hitman 1
- Hitman 3
- Thief 3
I'd buy a game just for it's music if it's good enough, and can be extracted (sadly I wish Indigo Prophecy's original score could be).

hmm...
-undying has some good ones...
and i would buy a game for good music, too.
Because music adds lot to the game experience.

Silent Hill, no question. Much of it is ambient, but still very good.

Betrayal at Krondor, while mostly epic orchestral, has some pretty dark and moody tracks. CD version of course, not the midis.
Gabriel Knight 2 has some very good pieces, and there is an OST if you wanted to listen outside of the game (better quality too)
I'd also like an Indigo sound track or method to rip the music. Its very well done, and sets the mood perfectly.

Painkiller has some excellent moody ambient music.
Define moody? Are you specifically searching for "scary" music? Because AOE3 has a few songs that I like...
Age of Empires has some great music. Really gives the feel of the age. Otherwise, Anno 1602/Anno 1503 and Thief. 1503 has some great medieval-sounding songs.

Killer7. Definitely the darkest game I've ever played. Very heavy shit.

Are you serious? FEAR has some of the worst ambient looped "music" I've ever heard in any medium, ever.

Quake 1 sounds good -- I know it's more ambient than musical, but it's still atmospheric. God job Trent Reznor never got those nail clippers... ha ha, no? Oh, please yourselves :o
Also the Painkiller tunes when there aren't monsters coming at you (I preferred the demo version, as you just got the ambient tunes, without the loud rock ones coming on all the time :tinyted:).

Imho, American McGee's Alice by far. The music matched the psychadelic artwork of the game. I absolutely loved this game.

I was only talking about the first track you hear in the intro and i agree the rest of the tracks just plain suck.
^I liked some of the tunes you got in the Armacham HQ.
