I'd like to try a game that lets you sneak around and occasionally kill some enemies. I don't care about the time frame or period it takes place in as long as the enemies are fairly intelligent. Got any ideas? Links to any demos? :)

Splinter Cell and Hitman are the best in my opinion.

Wot no Thief games? Or Deus Ex? :tinyted:
Commandos sort of -- I found 99% of the time I was sneaking the Green Beret up behind a Nazi soldier and slitting his throat ;)
Splinter Cell annoys me because it's so damn hard to sneak up behind someone and knock him out without him noticing you... or maybe I just suck?
Edit: Bludd was attracted by my typing the word "suck" and stole one of my ideas :flame:

I've never played Thief, and Deus Ex isn't a stealth game

Deus Ex does actually give you the option of sneaking about and taking down terrorists with well-aimed darts / stabs / taser blasts, rather than charging in like a mad thing ;)

MGS 1, 2 & 3. True classics of this genre!
The enemies imo are quite intelligent, and the stealth factor is one of the best seen in this kind of games.

Theif, man. Best there is.
Splinter Cell (1, the rest were fairly crap) is also brilliant.
The theif missions in Oblivion were also great fun.

Any Metal Gear Solid game(I recommend the third because you can sneak around as much as you want but if you ever want to go crazy and start killing people it's not impossible to do :D).
Commandos 2. The third one messed up the layout and controls and completely screwed up what made the second one so amazingly fun.
Hitman is great fun, too. Being rewarded for true stealthiness is neat.
FarCry also requires great amount of stealth if you play on higher difficulty levels . Never seen an enemy AI like that, unreal, like real life.

Deus Ex - Stealth is effective and so is running in and shooting everything(the latter uses more ammo but you'll get plenty of it from doing it).
Thief - You can circle strafe(stop if you get behind them) around someone and hit them constantly unless you're playing on expert. And if you aren't, it's not easy to pull off and doesn't work against more than one person.

Not total stealth, but has it's share - I love hiding in the hills and sniping of as many as I can then infiltrating compounds :D Plus it has really huge, open areas (it uses a flight sim engine for terrain), you can do a few third person things like sliding down zip-lines, sneaking up behind with the knife is fun too. Has interesting variation in locales once you get past the first couple missions, and some very challenging issions too. Multiplayer is fun as well, gamejunkie and I played some rounds before.

Splinter Cell 1,2 & 3 - I liked 3 the most: Chaos Theory. I never played the first one though.
Far Cry has alot of junglestealth and it's awesome and fun to sneak through the jungle :p

Can I play Thief 3 and not feel lost, or that something's missing?
~Amakou~
Thief: The Dark Project, or Thief Gold if you can find it.Gaming taken to the level of art.
Screw Thief: DS, it's consolised and ruined. It's enjoyable, but I warn you now: it's a big mistake to play DS first. It's just not as pure an experience.
'Feeling something's missing': Well you don't have to hoover up 100% of the loot, but it's kind of natural to get into the greedy loot-search vibe while playing. It doesn't detract at all. Searching for loot is fun as hell, they hide it sneakily in a lot of cases. In Thief: DS they ruined this by making loot sparkle (in a HEY LOOK stupid I'm LOOT! way). It sucks. Don't play DS.
Levels are often very complex, but the maps are pretty good. It's easy to add your own markers in the level anyway what with stowing bodies and things.

Actually, the worst part of Thief DS is the way the levels are split into tiny chunks, similar to Postal 2. Very annoying, not being able to go anywhere without having to pass through a "load zone". I'd pay real money for a special edition without load zones, which would greatly improve the game :tinyted:
Or Deus Ex? :tinyted:
He said "as long as the enemies are fairly intelligent". :p

I also would recommend Chronicles of Riddick, even if you hate the film or Vin Diesel, the game is great, I know what I´m talking about, because I hate Vin Diesel and the movie ;)

Splinter Cell (3 is now my favorite, although it is the easiest thanks to the knife; 1 is great... 2 was kinda meh IMO).
MGS (1 or 2 since I never played 3). It's more fast paced than SC but I do prefer SC over it. MGS is good though, very good... unless you hate cut-scenes.
Oblivion Thief and some DB missions...

Don't. The game sucks compared to the others. I'd recommend Hitman 2: Silent Assassin or Hitman Blood Money.

Also, I got Thief 3: Deadly Shadows. It's like medieval splinter cell, lol...

In my opinion, Contracts didn't introduce anything new, it was short, and it was mostly remakes of missions from Codename 47. The AI sucks compared to the others IMO, and most of the levels are dark and repetitive.
Hitman Blood Money let you shove people off cliffs, drop chandeliers on people, crack their skulls open with a hammer, etc. It also had a newspaper at the end of each mission.
Hitman 2 had a great story, and the mission were neat and original. You could also collect melee weapons, which was removed in Contracts. There was an awesome soundtrack as well.

OK, they ALL have awesome soundtracks, lol...
Contracts is just a bit darker than the other games though, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying it.
Only thing I didn't like about Blood Money (Which is MY personal favorite in the series) is the save system...oh sure it's challenging, but it's annoying as hell when you need to leave for something, and you can't quit the game without relinquishing your saves....

I stood behind the stage and shot him with a silenced gun when the other actor pretended to shoot him. :dopefish:
I really recommend all the Hitman games, and Contracts doesn't suck at all, I liked all the remade missions better cause there's more options.
Hitman 1 isn't nearly as good as the other three because most the missions are pretty linear and no mid-level saves.
Hitman 2 is mostly really cool except a few horrible levels (first two N. Japan levels :mryuck:).
Hitman 3 is all around good, but it's too short and half the missions are remakes(no problem if you haven't played hitman 1 though).
Hitman 4 is great all-around, but is way too easy. I didn't seem to have any problem figuring out what to in any mission, probably cause there's so many ways to kill people.

Pssh, I'd rather it be too easy because of open-endedness than too hard and linear.

Best thing of all is chucking a detonator on the stage and blowing it. ;)

Agreed, and another thing that made Blood money too easy is that gaurds were too forgiving when they find you in restricted places w/o a proper disguise. Some of the more extreme instances should still have been shoot on site.
You could also use the bomb to blow up the stage light to fall on him. :dopefish:

I switched the guns around, then once the guy got shot and everyone realized it, I timed it so I detonated the bomb on the chandelier so it would fall on the other guy as he ran underneath it. :D
I can't believe no one mentioned Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth yet.

Hitman 1 and 2 were awesome. Hitman Contracts was okay, but I felt it had faaar too many guns, and the remakes didn't seem as well done. Haven't played Blood Money yet but it looks f'ing awesome.
