Does Steam stream?

I was going to ask earlier but I forgot...
Does Steam stream stuff?

I ask this because I thought it didn't, but I was able to play the entire Dark Messiah Demo before it finished. At 36% I accidentally double-clicked on it and it started up. I got into the first level and there was a long load time but then the game played. It stuttered during dialog and sometimes when I would do 180s or during movement. Now I beat the first level and got to the second which also had long loading times but stuttered a lot less. It occasionally did but not much. I beat that level and quit the demo since it was done.

Now I goto Steam which says 36% still... click on it and it said 48%... it took around 30 more minutes for it to finish. I played the demo again and it was the same except with faster load times and 1 or 2 stutters.

So... does Steam stream game data?

Odd, I cant even play HL2 while its updating, let alone a game that has next to no content on the drive =/

Wasn't there a thread where someone (can't recall who) played HL2 before it was 100% and saw a level with no exit?

I think its an error or a future that is only partically implented.
